Meet Joseph Trice of Alan T. Studios in Downtown Metropolitan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Trice.

Joseph, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I had a certain knack for styling hair at the early age of 11 years old. I would press and curl my Mother’s hair every week or as often as she needed. After attending a local Community College, I decided to pursue my gift even further by enrolling and graduating from Creations Cosmetology College located in Tupelo, MS. While attending this facility, I learned the science structure and basic skill study pertaining to hair. It helped in sharpening and defining my ability to cut, color, process and reconstruct the framework of hair. I started building a solid clientele of the main women while attending Creations at Cosmetology College and also by word of mouth. People started admiring my talent and booking appointments regularly. I decided to test my skills even further by entering a Student Hair Battle Competition. I faced off against some other talented opponents but in the end, I won. I was very happy and content with the outcome. That experience boosted my self-confidence and sparked the idea of pushing my abilities to start creating different unique styles and techniques that no one else in my area was fulfilling at that point in time. Throughout the years, I have perfected those qualities and techniques providing hair styling and other makeover services for men and women that include makeup, cuts, color, wigs, hair units and artistry are just some of my unique talents.

Upon arrival in Atlanta, I interviewed and worked at one or two salons, but neither was the right fit for me. Although, I was able to start building a small clientele which eventually led me to work in an upscale salon with increased volume and greater revenue. It helped to open doors for my career where I obtained clients such as local news anchors and other high profile individuals. It also allowed me to participate in many high ranking fashion shows and photoshoots. Samples of my work and professional style techniques have been featured in marketing material utilizing models for posters and product advertisements for DoMe Hair, Bronner Brothers The company, Nairobi Hair Products, Golden Supreme (Heat Exxpress), Revlon (Colomer USA) and D’Suave hair products.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
During the early years, the road was quite solid. Still, after making a choice to relocate to Atlanta Georgia, to expand my career and giving up my clientele of 9 years in Tupelo, I faced many obstacles. There were many bumps, cracks and potholes. By not knowing anything about the city of Atlanta, finding a place to live for a few months was a definite struggle. I had to search around for a salon environment where I would feel comfortable working and have the opportunity to build a new clientele in the hope of establishing my name and worth. On top of everything else, I needed a steady income to maintain security for food, utilities and the necessary life essentials. By the Grace of God and my strong-willed faith, I was able to endure and overcome many of those difficult roadblocks.
