Meet Briana Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana Scott.

Briana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My nursing journey originally started at Albany State University in Albany, GA, in 2010. After not being accepted into their nursing program with my two close friends, I became discouraged and changed my major. I graduated with a BS in Biology in 2015. In 2017, after working as a laboratory technician, I decided to take a leap of faith and go after my true dreams of becoming a registered nurse.

I applied to three nursing schools and was fortunately accepted into two. I chose the first school, which was Samford University in Birmingham, AL, due to pure excitement. I told God that whoever contacts me back first will be the nursing the program I felt he wanted me to attend. This choice was definitely the best but most expensive choice for me. I truly believe that Ida V. Moffett nursing school has prepared and molded me into the nurse I am today. I currently work at Emory Hospital as an Internal Medicine Med-Surg nurse.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Going through nursing school and becoming a registered nurse was definitely not a smooth journey. I had previously graduated from a HBCU (historically black college university) and decided to attend a P.W.I (predominantly white institution) which was a major culture shock for me. I was also in a whole new state by myself, pursuing a dream that I wasn’t even sure I could accomplish. As classes began and having to balance work, my study life and finding ways to pay for classes, I realized that I struggled with anxiety daily. I had to find ways to cope with my anxiety so that I could pass my classes and stay sane through this journey I decided to take on. As a new nursing student, I had trouble figuring out how to study and how to apply what I had learned. I had to master thinking as a nurse and as an advocate for my patients. Over time, I mastered this type of thinking.

After graduation, the struggle did not end. I still struggled with test anxiety. When it came down to taking my state exam, I failed the first time. Not only was I disappointed but this delayed my start date at Emory hospital. I was very discouraged about my results and decided to change my entire studying habits. I was intensely determined to pass at this point. Thankfully I retook the state exam and passed!

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Nurse Bri Scott is available on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. It is a platform solely based on providing transparent, detailed and inspirational guidance on how to survive nursing school and achieve the goal of becoming a registered nurse through my personal experiences.

I started this platform because I personally struggled navigating through nursing school. It was a constant financial and mental battle for me. I had to learn different coping mechanisms and how to find peace while perusing my dream. I learned that nothing is given to you and that you have to work for everything. My platform is to help future nursing students know that they are not alone. I want to be a sense of guidance through their trials and accomplishments of nursing school.

I am mostly known for and proud of my transparency. I believe it’s important to show others both the good, bad, and ugly of my journey so they can relate. I don’t want them to feel misunderstood. Social media tends to show the glamorized side of life without showing the reality of situations. What sets me apart is that my goal is to remain transparent about my experiences and how I overcame them. My famous quote through nursing school was, “This too shall pass” because struggles truthfully don’t last always.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t necessarily believe in luck but I do believe in God and the power of faith. I believe that what God has destined for you is solely for you and no one can change that but Him. Outside of luck, prayer and keeping God first helped keep my peace and sanity. I had to learn that, what I can’t control, I must put in God’s hands. Having total faith in God, I believe, has allowed me and my business to be where it is today.
