Meet Lexi Poer of Strolling in the Suburbs Blog in Roswell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexi Poer.

Lexi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was working full-time at my corporate job in Atlanta for seven years when my husband and I had our first daughter. After maternity leave, we made the tough decision for me to stay-at-home. It was a decision I did not take lightly as I never imagined myself leaving the corporate world so early in my career to become a full-time, stay-at-home mother. I was terrified, to say the least. So many doubts ran through my mind. Am I a good enough, Mom? Will we make ends meet? Do I have to sacrifice all of the things I love because I am not earning income? Will I ever see an adult other than my husband again? After only a few months at home with a newborn, I realized that unless I found a community of my own, I was going to continue to feel isolated and worn down by this journey. So what does anyone who is feeling lonely do? Take to the internet! HA, but really.

I realized when I connected with these other women through their writing and stories, that were in the same phase of life as me, that I didn’t feel alone in my struggle and triumphs. That is when it hit me that as Moms, we need more than just our husbands and families as cheerleaders. We need peer support, as well. I knew I had something to give, and I wanted to help other mothers know that they weren’t alone. I wanted to remind them that there is someone else out there who struggled with moving out of the city. Someone else who struggled with leaving her corporate gig. Someone else who struggled with the feeling of belonging in the mommy morning out book clubs. Someone else who struggled to learn how to “stroll” in the burbs! Those feelings are what gave birth (pun intended) to Strolling in the Suburbs Blog.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When I first began blogging, it was a creative outlet for me. I consider myself relatively business savvy and very goal-oriented, so it became clear early on that I could turn this into more than just a blog, but a brand. The road has and will never be smooth, but it is a beautiful journey that I wouldn’t change for anything. I use my moments of doubt and defeat to grow and build from and I recognize the areas where I have been greatly blessed. I am fortunate to have an amazing support group around me that pushes me, challenges my ways of thinking, and praises me when I need to be uplifted. The main struggle I have faced over the years is realizing my worth. Influencer marketing is an emerging field that both individuals and brands are still trying to fully understand. With that being said, there is a lot of a grey area. It has taken leaders in the industry being transparent about their worth to assist me with understanding how to value myself. I am grateful for their honesty, and I want to provide that same level of assistance to others in the future.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Strolling in the Suburbs Blog – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Strolling in the Suburbs is a place where parents can come to share, learn, and thrive together with like-minded individuals either on Instagram or directly on the blog website. My husband and I have opened our lives to hopefully help others throughout their journey of parenting. It could be something as simple as a dinner idea, organization tip, or deeper topics like making the decision to have a Prophylactic Mastectomy. We are an open book, and we hope our honesty and transparency sets us apart from others. I am proud of the brand we are building, our small portion of the internet featuring content creation that focuses on inclusivity, acceptance, love, and family.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We have a few goals in mind for the future of our brand. First, we decided to start a parent company, Poer Media Group, that will encompass a few areas of expansion in the future. One of those areas will likely involve my husband and I have creating a podcast. Clearly, we love to share and enjoy being vulnerable with others. We feel strongly that through hearing us discuss life openly, others may find ways to improve their own family-lives, or even marriages.
