Meet Sakera Young of K.Young

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sakera Young.

Sakera, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I always did music more so freestyle rapping with friends and more so with my two brothers growing up. I always played basketball so I took that more serious, got full scholarship to play division 1 basketball at umass (university of Massachusetts). Graduated then played professionally in Iceland for one season. I got cut from team because the team kept losing and I was only player being paid so they cut their losses since we weren’t going to make playoffs etc. I then moved back to NJ. Then in 2015, my younger brother passed away… then two years later in 2017 my older bro passed away. Leaving me only sibling left. I started rapping to deal with my pain/grief. I made my album “Numb the Pain” which the cover art is images of my brothers. I moved to California to start new life and grow thru my grief. Also, to pursue music at another level. Soon will be releasing a documentary on the lives of my brothers and the importance of mental health. Working to get more funding to complete documentary.

Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely was a huge struggle, I been thru the lowest and darkest moments of life. From not understanding who I was or what my purpose was to not wanting to live life. Music helped me fight thru

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
My music is based on my emotions how I feel what I been thru. I have songs called “post-traumatic” “alone” “fear of survival”.. all show how my emotions were going thru my grief. I’m myself I don’t duplicate other artists I keep it real to my self and who I am

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see me becoming a well respected, successful artist.
