Meet Rakirah Fisher of 9Online Studios in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rakirah Fisher.

Rakirah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my brand 9Online during my sophomore year at Spelman College. I started the brand to first use as a platform to showcase my creative expression as I was inspired by many of my peers at school who were unapologetic about sharing their stories and passions. I was heavily involved in one particular organization called “Event Envoys” that pushed me to develop a skillset of curating and servicing which quickly turned into my passion. After my sophomore year, during the summer of 2017 I returned back to Philly (my hometown) and put together an event that absolutely changed my life. The event was called “A Seat At The Table” where women from the ages of 11-52 came in one space to celebrate their business and talents. Since then, July of 2017 9Online has become something way bigger than what I at first imagined. I’ve been featured in several publications, awarded by the city of Philadelphia on behalf of my outreach and created many opportunities for my brand and now company.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road with 9Online. For so long, I didn’t know if I wanted to keep up 9Online for myself or servicing others. This bump has stagnated not only my brand but me because I felt the urgency to have had it figured out. But what I do know and what I’ve learned is that nothing is overnight and anything worthwhile is going to take some time and development. I used to struggle with coming up with what I should sell and market. I want to be able to make quality income and provide quality service and along the way it’s been difficult to find a balance in my professional and business realm of life.

9Online Studios – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
9Online Studios is a national multimedia company that creates new ways to investigate art through culture, events, print & digital media and education. What sets us apart is that we strive to economically advance communities of color by creating access to multimedia art. Our mission is to bring critical thinking and high-class culture to the hood. I’m most proud of coming from the hood and being able to put these things back into the community in the most aesthetically pleasing and informative way.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far has come from the learning that I’m a true visionary. I’m able to speak of ideas and watch them come to fruition. I’ve realized I can’t tackle everything and I may not be able to do execute every idea that pops into my head but if I share it with the right person someone can get the job done and it’s a win for everybody. My proudest moments came from when I believed in my ability to lead.
