Meet Sonya Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonya Davis.

Sonya, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I moved to the Metro Atlanta area in 2008 after receiving a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and minor in Pre-law from Florida A&M University. I’ve had a very successful career in retail management, where I specialized in marketing, promotion, outstanding service and conflict resolution with several large big-box organizations. My work wasn’t fulfilling. I grew tired of “playing the game,” but I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do with my skills. It wasn’t until those close to me pointed out that I found joy in helping others realize their real estate dreams and educating others on financial literacy that I started to think outside of the box I was used to.

I frequently would go through the real estate purchasing process with close family/friends. I collected data to understand their budget, interest, scouted properties and even coached them on terminology and credit solutions. Buying a home is one of the largest purchases people make and it can be intimidating. By the age of 30, I’d gone through this process twice for myself then once for my mom and I didn’t mind giving guidance. In 2018 with encouragement from friends, I decided to jump! BEST DECISION EVER. I left my job, got licensed and I’ve been
walking in my purpose on purpose ever since.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being able to adapt is a necessity as an entrepreneur. No matter how much you plan, things can and will (at some point in your journey) not happen as envisioned. Being a new entrepreneur AND introvert absolutely did not mix, yet that was me! As a Realtor, it’s a recipe for failure. I had to market myself in a way I had never done before. I was out of my comfort zone. I normally interacted with people I was introduced to, grew up with or met through work. I figured out that I was allowing my discomfort to stand in the way of me working with people to make their dreams a reality. I had to reach back and apply my soft skills learned while working in retail management. I learned to meet people where they were on the communication spectrum to grow my clientele. I am my business, and the success of my business requires great communication, negotiation skills as well as the ability to network effectively.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a Realtor in the Metro Atlanta area. I specialize in first time home buyers and investors but I welcome all that need real estate assistance, whether you are buying or selling. I am proud to say that I have a 5-star review rating and my best compliment is being told I make each client feel like they’re my only client. My goal is that each person and/or family I work with know that I am their advocate, real estate council, and that I am committed to their real estate goals. Recently, Wells Fargo featured me in their June 2020 issue of “Wells Fargo Stories” highlighting the purchasing story of a dear previous client. I’m am currently focused on the financial literacy of my clients who haven’t always made the best credit decisions and assisting new investors build portfolios.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I wouldn’t call it luck but I have definitely been blessed on this journey. I believe that when you are truly walking in your purpose doors will open. You will have a sense of peace. I don’t regret my time working in corporate America because is equipped me with transferable skills that I still apply today. I believe that my success and future success is tied to my faith and obedience. I am grateful for the network of mentors, resources, and relationships (past and present) that have invested in my sustainability in this industry. I have an amazing husband and children that support my career. I could not do what I do as well as I do without them.
