Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamiko Maldonado.
Tamiko, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I founded TamiCo. Dancing Inc. in 2009 in the Bronx, New York as a means for young dancers to not only thrive mentally but also hone in on their artistic abilities, ultimately building life-learning skills. The mission behind TamiCo. Dancing is to teach young artists to genuinely respect and love the art of Dance. This optimistic outlook and approach not only rewards personal fulfillment but simultaneously creates a lasting impression on each student’s life. Through the encouragement of limitless expression, every one of my students is enabled to successfully implement this type of thought process.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been many, many, many (did I say many lol) struggles along the way. Being an entrepreneur, you learn really quickly. The road up ain’t easy lol. You not only have to deal with daily business struggles but personal struggles as well. And all at the same time. Having your own business can be extremely overwhelming and most times, the thought crosses your mind to give up and throw in the towel. But then you remember why you started your own business in the first place. You remember why it’s all worth it and why you gave up your personal life to focus solely on building your business and bringing your vision to life; to make a positive change in children’s lives and help them fulfill their dreams and goals. Creating TamiCo. Dancing was always a dream of mine and I don’t regret one second.
Please tell us about TamiCo. Dancing.

It is a means of communication with students internally, other students and with world perspectives at its best TamiCo. Dancing gives students a simultaneous experience of utmost discipline and the utmost freedom. TamiCo. Dancing prides itself on providing a creative and intelligent approach to dance education.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my most favorite childhood memories is going to dance. I can’t tell you how much I loved going to ballet class everyday. I literally danced seven days a week for ten years. It was tough not being a “normal” kid, always having to go dancing during the week after school, and all day on the weekends, including Sundays. But if I didn’t have those experiences and discipline from my childhood, I would not be where I am today with two successful dance studio locations in both the Bronx and Yonkers.
