Meet Jamecia Booker of Bussin Braidz in Clayton County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamecia Booker.

Jamecia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a young woman from Atlanta inspired by her mother who styled hair as a method to create another source of income, I was easily inspired to create my own business. At the age ten years old I started doing my friends and family hair, which led to me eventually working in a salon. In 2011 my passion for doing hair led to me creating my business Bussin Braidz and becoming a full time entrepreneur. With this business I utilized my self taught skills to express my creativity. Being able to provide my clients with the exact look requested and boost their confidence through my unique styles gave me the motivation I needed to start persevere and expand my business.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
During my studies at Atlanta Technical College for Cosmetology it was a struggle balancing school, my job and my kids. At times I wanted to give up but my clients and instructors pushed me and encourage me to keep going. Needless to say I continued my studies and received my cosmetology diploma in 2014.

Bussin Braidz is known for it’s neat and creative braiding techniques. My business is also known for the unique styles I provide for my Loc Baes. Over the years, I’ve had several proud moments that has influence my business. My favorite moment thus far was being able to grow a consistent clientele over the years and being able to assist a contestant in the Natural Hair Show here in Atlanta, Georgia. My clients often refer to me as having growing hands.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Bussin Braidz has plans to expand business and create new hair care products. Also we plan on dedicating a day once a month to give back to our community.
