Meet Eva Madison

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eva Madison.

Eva, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Mexico City, Mexico. My parents are from Bulgaria and Ireland, so I grew up in a multicultural home, surrounded by multiple different languages. My parents were well-traveled and lived in several countries around the world before we settled in the United States when I was seven years old. It was the enthusiasm in my mother’s voice whenever she would talk about her travel experiences and our visits to museums that cultivated my passion for travel, art, and photography. Growing up, I always knew that I wanted to be an artist – I just didn’t know what type of art to focus on. In school, I took every art elective possible: painting, drawing, photography, pottery – I even took a drafting class!

When I was in high school, I took a photography class, and it was absolutely amazing. We did everything from rolling our own film to developing photos in the darkroom. It was extremely expressive, meditative, and peaceful. It was around this time in my life I knew I wanted to do this art form forever. While I was in college, I focused on photography during the weekends. I was in the darkroom for as long as I can remember. In fact, the first large display of my artwork was actually in a darkroom gallery window. I was so grateful that of all of the artists who used the darkroom, they choose to display my photographs. This is the first time that I felt like a real artist! I guess you can say I felt validated that my work was good enough.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was challenging to balance photography with college and a full-time career. I am an author, a CPA, have degrees in Accounting and Information Systems, and an MBA from Emory. I love spending time with my wonderful family, my husband Todd, and dog Mia. I continued traveling and taking photos throughout the years, selling several along the way, but found it difficult to focus on it as a business until recently.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’ve been taking, displaying, and selling photographs for about 20 years, but I didn’t really establish my art business until January 2020. My love of travel and its fascinating discoveries inspire my photography today. My work is mainly of natural landscapes and architecture. I grew up in a beach town, Naples, Florida, so I find taking photos of beaches and sunsets irresistible.

I am mostly known for my composition and the natural light that is captured in my photos. All of those years taking pictures of beaches at sunrise and sunset are starting to pay off.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I believe I am exactly where I should be. I am so incredibly fortunate to travel around the world and capture the essence of the world’s beauty. Every year, I take a few weeks to explore different parts of the world – always with a camera in hand. I am also very grateful to all of the fabulous and established artists that have helped me along the way. They have never hesitated to provide advice. They’ve helped me with everything from creating my own website, finding book printers, and sharing their contacts to grow my business.
