Meet Kevin Fuqua of Southern Advisors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Fuqua.

Kevin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In the small community where I grew up, helping people was at the core of everything we did as a family. Those values stayed with me as I got older and went out into the working world. As a young adult, I realized I had a gift for helping others with financial planning and problem solving. In 2006 my wife, Amanda, and I began Southern Advisors. From the humble beginnings of working out of our own home to working from a historical home-turned-office in Holly Springs, we now take up residence in our own office building in Woodstock. We have grown in number and in the services we offer to our clients.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. I’ve always said, if you don’t like change, you won’t make it in this business. The financial industry is ever changing, and we work hard to change with the times, always with the client’s best interest in mind. We strive to develop new customized financial strategies and solutions which provide peace of mind to all of our clients.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Southern Advisors story. Tell us more about the business.
Initially we focused on income planning and tax-free investments, but our services have broadened to include every aspect of financial planning for retirees and pre-retirees.

Our services include managed money, trusts, estate planning, ROTH conversions, annuities, Social Security maximization, and more. We tailor and customize each solution and plan to the specific needs, wants, and goals of our valued clients.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see taxes increasing at a higher rate and the cost of healthcare going out of control. The individual retirement saver will change the way they save to a more tax-efficient manner. People will have more knowledge of alternate ways to invest besides the typical 401K.
