Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindy Herrell.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My dad started working on Volkswagen’s in the late 60’s and we worked on them on and off since then. My father and I have fell in love with them, and I started a full time mechanic shop and we opened a parts store in the late 90’s. We are still working on them, and selling parts, I also restore them. My children are now older and they are a big part of the business as well.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been an easy ride. Volkswagens were not always as popular as they are now. At some point, there just wasn’t many shops around, so it kept food on the table.
Volkswagens have become more and more popular. Now with so many other shops, and parts stores being open, it stays a struggle to compete with the larger ones. We take pride in our work, our reputation and our customers. We strike to be honest and fair, and I guess that has been a reason for our success.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Herrell Bug Parts – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We work on, sale parts for, and restore Air-cooled Volkswagens. We ship new and used parts around the world. We buy and sell Volkswagens, and ship them around the world as well.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are planning on expanding our parts store, and creating an online store to make it easier for our customers to order their parts. There are a lot of big ideas that we have now, that I have some of the newer generation involved. I was always so old school and had my way of doing things, but my children have helped me to see that sometimes changes are a good thing.
