Today we’d like to introduce you to Korrin Swinton.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Korrin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am 18 years old a makeup artist located in the DMV area. I specialize in special occasions makeup and creative makeup. I began my journey in the summer of 2018 as just a coping mechanism. As I began to practice more and more, I realized I wasn’t so bad at doing makeup. So in December of 2018, I took my first client and it’s been up from there. Fast-forwarding to 2020, my page as grown tremendously. I am working for photographers, video directors, and more in hopes of being able to become a creative makeup artist full time.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
A smooth road? Starting a business is way harder than it seems. I faced so many hardships not really with the people around me but within myself, and sometimes I still do. Questions used to constantly circulate through my head like ‘am I good enough ?’ and ‘Why isn’t my page growing?’ I never could seem to answer them, however, as cliché as this sounds, I never gave up. and like I said I still sometimes have doubts but I’m blessed to have such a great group of people around me that keep me going.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with LooksByRin – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am an artist. In specific, I am a makeup artist. I do special occasion makeup for things like birthday parties, baby showers, weddings, etc. and while I love doing that, Creative & special effects makeup are my first loves. I find so much joy in transforming people into characters and just making them look different from their original canvas. I’m most known for recreating characters like violet from charlie and the chocolate factory and Edward forms Edward Scissorhands. Those seem to make people go crazy.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the future, I plan to be doing makeup for blockbuster movies. I want to be able to wake up and create every single day. However, I want to do more. I plan on helping young black girls get into special effects makeup in hopes of creating a more diverse palette in the film making industry. There is a shortage of girls that look like me so I plan to change that.
