Meet Oniqua Higgins

Hi Oniqua, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I graduated from Penn State University in 2016. Upon graduating, the one job lead I had, fallen through. They completely ghosted me. Then the post-grad depression kicked in. I started reaching out to every connection I had. Edited my resume. Met with mentors and people who were in the positions I aspired to be in. I ended up getting an interview at my local hometown television station and the job was mine. I worked that job nearly minimum wage and no benefits for a year. I mastered this position and became the best I could at my job (and other people’s jobs too!) From there, I worked my way up through the company. I received two promotions until it was the exact position I wanted as a TV News Reporter. The journey wasn’t a walk in the park but I wouldn’t trade the struggles I endured for anything. They helped make me who I am today. Now I’m an Entertainment Media Correspondent in the #1 Market in the Country. I got here through hard work, passion, and humility.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It wasn’t a smooth road. I faced a lot of adversity throughout my career—a lot of long days and nights. I remember waking up at 2 AM to head into work for a 4 AM shift and not getting off work until 4 PM. I’ve been told “no,” so many times. Overlooked for opportunities.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an Entertainment & Lifestyle Media Correspondent/Producer. I host a lifestyle show with Bold TV in NYC. I also cover red carpets and interview celebrities with various other media outlets.

What are your plans for the future?
In the future, I plan to work with multiple media companies. I hope to teach digital media and influencer marketing at a University in Los Angeles. I’m also going to become an entrepreneur. I have a new fashion business venture coming very soon!
