Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Carson.
Hi Rachel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a lifestyle blogger & entrepreneur who is a lover of fashion, beauty, health, wellness, entertainment, travel & more. I am dedicated to creating and curating resources, networking opportunities, brand building, marketing and supporting other female small business owners. In addition to this, I own an online store called The Boss Babe Merch Store where I sell clothing (sweatshirts, t-shirts, bags and masks) as well as false lash extensions and will soon open The Boss Babe Wellness Shoppe where I will sell crystals, sage, incense and other metaphysical and holistic products.
Last year, before COVID, I was the host of a happy hour event series called “First Fridays” which occurred each & every first Friday of the month and is a part of what I call “A Boss Babe Networking Series”. When the world opens back up, I hope to resume happy hour and also add a brunch component to the series as well. The overall purpose behind this series is to support black-owned & black operated restaurants, bars & lounges throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area while creating networking opportunities for the women who live here.
Currently, I am in the beginning stages of writing a grant that will secure funds for my dream of operating a non-profit organization; I call it: “Boss Babe University”. Boss Babe University has two aspects to it. It will serve as a youth development program for young girls, addressing self-esteem issues and beyond as well as provide reiki, crystal healing, meditation, mindfulness and life coaching services to women in order to help to improve our community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not necessarily been an easy feat. In a digital world that is inundated with bloggers, fashion designers, models, makeup artists, so on and so forth, it has been difficult finding a voice that is of my own. I want to be intentional about each and every one of my interactions that I have. I want to inspire people to be better versions of themselves, ready to make the world better than they found it. While I have some favorite bloggers in the game that I look up to and admire and of course serve as a source of empowerment and inspiration, I still want to create a lane that caters to my own audience that gives off a vibe that is slightly different than the rest!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
It is my mission to be able to bring dope content to my audience and continue to be unapologetically and authentically myself while doing so. I pride myself in having a voice that feels as if you are talking to your best friend on the phone while spilling some of the hottest tea you’ve ever sipped. It is my personal experiences that have compelled me to create an inclusive, and empowering networking experience in order to negate the all too common competitive spirit many entrepreneurs seem to encounter. I’d say that the very thing that I am proud of is also what sets me apart from others: taking on the platform of sharing my journey as a plus-sized woman of color that has Multiple Sclerosis. My platform shares how I’ve become a cat and plant mom while being on a health journey to better myself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually; my catalyst being these unprecedented times that we’re currently in.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
As the natives would say: “F.I.L.A.: Forever I Love Atlanta!” Atlanta is one of my most favorite cities, so much so that I have lived here twice. Four years ago, I purchased my first home four years ago in order to tether myself a bit, so I’d say that being in Atlanta is for good. Atlanta is an amazing city that is filled with some amazing people; all moving and shaking in hopes of becoming better versions of themselves. I am grateful to have been able to find spaces for myself to thrive in and find others who want to be a part of nothing but dope vibes and positive energy!
What I like the least about Atlanta is the traffic & the gentrification that is happening all around the city that is disproportionately affecting people of color/minorities.
