Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Williams.
Hi Brittney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My love for music began at an early age. It all started at seven years old when I was selected by the choir director to sing two solo selections: “Rise Again” by Dallas Holm and “I Surrender All” by CeCe Winans in Spanish at Victory Baptist Church. After I kept getting asked to sing more solo selections, fear gripped my heart and I withdrew from singing. As a little girl, I was shy and I didn’t have much confidence standing in front of people. But God had a plan to re-awaken me to use my voice again. In fifth grade, my music teacher saw the gift inside of me and pulled me from the back to the front. She pulled me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to use my gift of singing to glorify God. As I continued growing as a singer, at the age of 13, I began songwriting. Within this stage of development, I was afforded the opportunity to become an affiliate with SESAC, which is a performing rights organization that collects royalties on behalf of songwriters, composers, and producers. Although I grew up singing in church, I also enjoyed other styles of music.
During my teenage and college years, I ventured out as an artist into different styles of music such as R&B, Soul, Pop, and Hip-Hop. I worked with Grammy-Nominated artist B.O.B when we both attended Columbia High School. Also, I worked with Grammy-Nominated producer, Cortez Farris who produced platinum hit records for Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill, and many more nationally known recording artists. At a particular point in my music career as a pop artist, there was a window of opportunity when I could have worked with either Warner Music Group, Epic Records, or Universal Music Group. Towards my last year in college, life began to take a turn for the worse and I knew it was a sign from God re-directing my path. I realized that the Lord had a greater purpose for me to fulfill as a worshipper. I closed the pop artist chapter of my life at 23 years old and allowed God to take me on a journey of healing. From 2006 to 2017, I lead praise and worship for the middle/high school, college, and young adult ministries at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, where I attended for 26 years. Afterwards, I attended and served on the praise team at Embassy International Worship Center for a few years. I had the opportunity to be apart of their live album “Possess The Land” which has over 1 million global streams. Now I attend Victory Church. I am a graduate from Georgia State University with a degree in Journalism and a minor in Music Management. As a voice student in the music management program, I was afforded the opportunity to be classically trained by an international opera singer. Also, I have a paralegal certification from the University of Georgia. As an advocate for education, I’ve appeared at metropolitan Atlanta schools and partnered with Junior Achievement of Georgia to help motivate students achieve success.
In 2015, I created an event called “Dine and Worship,” where I ministered in song every other Sunday at Coaxum’s Low Country Cuisine and was featured on V-103.3 FM several times. Also, I have a heart for the homeless community and created “The Songs of Hope” tour in 2017. My heart’s mission was to give back by ministering songs of God’s love, hope, and encouragement to the homeless. I partnered with Gateway Center, 7 Bridges to Recovery, Restoration Atlanta, and Royally Refined. On September 25, 2017, I released my first single called “Key To My Heart” which has reached across the globe such as India, United Kingdom, Italy, Canada, Japan, Germany, Bermuda, and Kenya. “The Missionary Show” on Vision Radio, 105.1 FM featured me as a guest artist where I shared my testimony and ministered in song. In addition, I’ve been featured on LOV3RZ magazine and “Key To My Heart” continues to receive radio airplay on #MusicLov3rz Radio. On March 1, 2021, I released a new single called “So Amazing” available now on all digital music platforms along with a music video which can be seen on YouTube. My musical influences are Whitney Houston, CeCe Winans, Yolanda Adams, Israel Houghton, Kari Jobe, Kim Walker, Chris Tomlin, Mary Mary, and many more gospel/worship artists. My heart’s desire is to lead people into the loving presence of God and to inspire people through my transparency. If you were to describe my music, it would be considered intimate worship music and songs from the heart.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it wasn’t always a smooth road. Very hard at times but I’m so glad I didn’t give up. I experienced some set backs and disappointments where great opportunities were presented before me. I could’ve signed with a major record label during my college years as a pop artist but God had a better plan for my life as a worshipper. A few years ago, I had the opportunity to go to the Stellar Awards to network with recording artists, producers, and music executives to share with them my single “Key To My Heart” but the person who gave me the opportunity felt that I wasn’t ready because she wanted to change the format of my song. I didn’t have peace about it so it didn’t work out. There were moments when I felt like I wasn’t good enough and thought maybe God had a different plan. I believe the struggles I’ve endured as an independent artist caused me to self-reflect on areas that I needed to grow in. This journey has stretched me to not only become a great artist and visionary but to also be a great business woman. I’m still learning and growing. I never want to stop educating myself. I want to become the best version of myself and be all that God created me to be. To be the standard. To move in excellence. To carry myself as a queen. Blazing the trail for His glory and to help others who aspire to become Christian/gospel artists. Or for those who simply just want to grow as worshippers.
