Meet Jamarri Rollocks of Our Heroes’ Homes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamarri Rollocks.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jamarri. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 2012, after working with Wounded Warriors for the Social Security Administration, I decided to form a non-profit organization to provide housing and community outreach to homeless veterans. As a public service employee, I saw hundreds of soldiers and veterans fight for assistance from the government. Many of them never receive help!

Our mission is to provide veterans and their immediate families the opportunity to become productive self-sustaining members of the community. We strive to provide the best service we can. Our purpose is to provide housing, counseling and vocational services to homeless veterans and their families.  Our Heroes’ Homes began its outreach within the metro Atlanta area by partnering with other veterans organizations. We provide homeless veterans with resume building classes, career search services and access to housing.

On Veterans Day, we fill bags with hygiene products and distribute the bags at our Veterans Day of Giving event. This event is in partnership with the Veterans Empowerment Organization in Atlanta, Georgia. This year will make our 3rd annual Veterans Day of Giving event.

Thanks to companies such as, Publix, Kroger, Home Depot, CVS, the GA Disability Adjudication Services, and many others, Our Heroes’ Homes has been able to provide assistance to hundreds of veterans every year!

In 2018, Our Heroes’ Homes will host its 1st Annual Fashion Show tribute to Veterans!! We are in the process of starting a community garden and opening a café for the homeless (projected to open 2019).

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to helping others is never smooth….. Our first two years of operation were difficult. In 2013, the Georgia Disability Adjudication Services gave us 15 computers so we could open our career. However, securing space was more than a challenge. I had to rent space at an office park (paying for space on my own). We were unable to secure funding for the facility and eventually had to leave the space. In 2015, we decided to give the computers to a program, Revamp Africa. Throughout the years, we have had many companies reject our request for funding, donations and sponsorship but we will not allow those rejections to stop us from trying to end veterans homelessness.

Our Heroes’ Homes – what should we know?
We provide career services, access to housing, assistance with applying for benefits, etc. I am proud of our organization and our board members. We give our time and money to ensure the welfare of people who sacrifice their lives for our freedoms.

We are known for our charity and giving to veterans in the Metro Atlanta area.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I am very proud of our progress as a non-profit. We provide assistance to more veterans each year, than most small non-profits. We are also one of few non-profits in the Atlanta area who provides assistance to Veterans only.
