Meet Jantell Watkins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jantell Watkins.

Hi Jantell, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started playing around with my business in my early twenties. I was working at Victoria Secrets and of course, men shopped there for their significant others. While I was helping them, I would ask, “What are you celebrating?” “How are you going to give her the gift?” “What else are you doing?” The answers were always the same, in this box and I’m just going to hand it to her. So I would print off receipts and write down suggestions.  After a while, they would come back in with the Significant Others and thank me. I thought to myself; there might be a business in this.

So I started out creating Date Nights for Couples. This was my first love. I had a clientele for a while, then I experienced a family tragedy and had to relocate. I tried to work my business in the new state, but it was not catching on. I did use the time there to develop my craft by taking classes and learning how to network. Fast forward to 2018, I moved back to Atlanta with a husband and a new passion for my business. Since moving back, I have added personalized gifts to my business, I do a live for couples with my husband on Friday Nights and I am a certified wellness and relationship coach.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t, lol. I have wanted to give up so many times. I actually did in 2017-2018. I lost my grandmother and I could no longer function. I allowed my grief to take over my life. Depression and anxiety had become my new norm. My mother and my now husband wasn’t having it, thank God. I did therapy, he moved me back home and things started to change for the better. If I am to be completely transparent with you, I still deal with Imposter Syndrome; I have to remind myself that I deserve to be in the rooms that I’m invited into and I deserve to sit at the table.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an event planner for couples. That is first, my love. I do all the footwork for the date night and the two of you just come and enjoy. I also create personalized gifts for couples. We have Romantic Tip Jars, Journals, Hand Painted Glassware, Massage Kits and so much more. My most recent addition to my company is Wellness and Relationship Coaching. My dream is to have Romantic Expressions be a one-stop shop.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I’m always looking for personal chefs and massage therapist to work with. Now that things are starting to turn around, I’m looking to have in-person events again and Date Nights never stop. I can decorate and they can cook or do the massages. I’m taking new clients for both Date Nights and Coaching; people can also check out my website or pass my name on if they know someone who can use the services.
