Rising Stars: Meet Jasmine Alexander

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Alexander.

Hi Jasmine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
While I was growing up, having a dream to become an actress was like saying pigs will fly one day, okay maybe not that extreme. But it was not something most people saw as obtainable. I started with a passion to create at a very young age. I remember growing in cold flint, MI, where I would watch a ton of movies with one goal in mind. I want to do that! I want to become an actress. I was dead set on it and After many of life’s obstacles, I am proud to say I am an actor/filmmaker.

I am now located in Atlanta, GA since relocating. I have started venturing behind the camera. If this pandemic has taught me anything, it’s to just go for it. We have to remind ourselves that life is short and we all have to start somewhere. No, it will not be perfect, but you will never get to perfection if you don’t start. I have gone from waiting on opportunities to creating them. Since the pandemic, I have created six short films. I am sure it will be more in the future; however, right now, I am focused on my first love which is acting.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. A lot of my struggles were dealing with my inner conflict. I was that shy and quiet girl that had big dreams that nobody saw coming into reality. I doubted myself at times. However, it was something in me that allowed me to push through no matter how many obstacles got in the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an actor/filmmaker. I started my acting journey like most actors as background/extra. I then ventured on to many other projects, such as short film web series. The project I am most known for and very proud of is Texas Flip N Move. I Went on set as an extra and left having a speaking role. Those episodes can be seen on HGTV and or Amazon prime. I am new in the filmmaking streets. I am hoping to make my mark in the future as a great Director/filmmaker. I think what sets me apart from other actors/filmmakers are my gifts to see the creative nature in everything I do. My passion for the arts runs deep. I plan to push my creative side to the limits with only the positive outcomes to be expected.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Atlanta, Georgia is absolutely beautiful when it comes to culture, arts, and scenery. I love the trees and the Greenery here. I have to say I can do without the traffic. That’s definitely what I can say I like least about Atlanta.
