Meet Takara M. James of Writluxe Writing Firm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Takara M. James.

Hi Takara, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my journey as a writer when I was six. My mother had recently passed and all I could do was really journal through the emotions I was feeling. Back then, we never really considered therapy, so I found ways to cope through writing. When my dad passed in 2006, my writing progressed. My ninth-grade English teacher, Mrs. Jones-Meeks, had us create a poetry portfolio and that was when I truly fell in love with writing. I wrote so many heart-felt poems dedicated to my mom and dad, that all of my classmates still talk about it today.

As a result, I focused both my undergrad and graduate studies on English and Creative Writing. Today I have a Bachelor’s degree in English and a Master’s degree in English and Creative Writing. I am proud to say that writing young, learning how to implement emotion and pain through my words, and compel my audience so early on, led me to become a published author of more than eleven bestselling titles. I currently have two children’s books that I am extremely proud of. They inspire African American boys and girls to explore non-traditional careers, including entrepreneurship, which has been something many of us did not have insight on very young. I also have other books that focus on family relationships, social justice, divorce, and more.

Today, I am the proud owner of Writluxe Writing Firm, LLC an online writing firm where I specialize in professional writing in business, academics, and authorship. I have more than 1k clients and have worked with many businesses as a contractor, offering my expertise. My writing firm allows me to use my creative writing skills to help illustrate the visions of my clients and their entrepreneurial advancement. I’ve also worked with many people who have had a spotlight article with Voyage ATL, which makes me extremely proud. Writluxe Writing Firm offers a home to authors who are looking to not only become published writers but to learn the skill of creative writing and fast-track themselves by taking the steps I’ve designed, based on my personal experience. Basically, my company was created for creatives!

I remember when I first started, I had only grossed maybe $800 in a single year and now my firm makes about 25-30k in a quarter. I’ve been blessed to be able to give back and sew into other businesses by utilizing their services, as others did for me.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, being a full-time entrepreneur and writer has been far from easy. I struggled with balance in the beginning. I didn’t truly have a streamlined process, and that kept me stagnant for a while. One day someone asked me, “will you be ready for the increase when God bless your business?” It took me a while to truly understand how important that question was. We all want success, money, and opportunities, but are we truly prepared for that?

I had to make sure when the door opened. I was ready to walk through. I created a process where I can accurately respond to emails, have client consultations and meetings, get work done, and still have time in my personal life to do the things I enjoy. I had to do all of this while putting myself through my master’s program. On top of that, I still needed to be the writer I desired to be.

I recently learned that there is a difference between Takara the writer and Takara the author. I keep trying to draw a wedge between the two, but my name is tied so much to Writluxe that people forget that I’m an author. I used my time during quarantine to rebrand myself as an author and streamline that process as well. Trying to organically build my email list, find a target audience for my work outside of social media, and get people to interact more with my content was a challenge, but I have enjoyed the process. The launch of my recent works has helped me recognize that it can be done. I have to have the patience and dedication for it to work.

Nonetheless, being organized and disciplined in this line of work is critically important. I don’t have someone standing over me making sure that I do the work, that I honor my commitment to my brand and my clients, that I follow up and follow through. Instead, that responsibility is solely mine, and I am proud of remaining structured and dedicated enough to make it happen.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Writluxe Writing Firm?
I am the creative director and owner of Writluxe Writing Firm. While the firm is online-based, I have the opportunity to service clients across the country. Our specialty is creative writing and publishing. I have worked with more than 200 authors to develop, edit, and publish their works. I have worked with businesses and entrepreneurs on their brand pitch, marketing, and visibility, along with creating a podcast, “Let’s Talk Business Podcast,” that encourages entrepreneurs to streamline their process for success.

What set’s me apart from other organizations is the drive, experience, and professional background, but Writluxe is a one-stop-shop for service needs. If a person is looking to write a book, they can get coaching, take our writing or editorial course, get the developmental resources for book writing, editing, book formatting, and publishing all in one place. This is critically important because it helps build a relationship between Writluxe and our clients, and they get a specialized and more tailored experience. We don’t just pass our clients off to someone else. When they work with my brand, they are working with me.

I am most proud of my process. It has become so specific these days that my clients are always eager to work with me. It is very organized, so once they submit their orders for service, they know what to expect. From the welcome packets, accessible links to different resources and specialty services, to the website accessibility and email correspondences, I am so proud of how far my business has come in making my clients’ experience worthwhile.

To those of you who need a professional writer for your organization, Writing Writing Firm is for you. Writers or those who have aspired to write a book, no matter if it is your personal memoir, a self-help or inspirational title, or a manual/workbook, Writluxe Writing Firm has the knowledge, tools, and expertise to take your work to the next level. Let’s work!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that patience and perseverance will take you a long way. So many people want a get-rich-quick method to obtaining success. The truth is, success is only found through failure. You have to make mistakes, take chances, and be patient during the process before you can really see the benefits.

I began my journey through entrepreneurship back in 2014. It was when I started writing my first book. I served as a tutor and mentored from 2008 through my college years. Today, my firm has allowed me to help more than 300 college students get accepted into college and complete their degrees. Business owners who I have worked with as a contractor have been on the Forbes List. I have had the pleasure of working with so many people with major titles in their respective industries due to my being patient and persevering through it all. I never foresaw myself, at 31, being where I am as a full-time entrepreneur, but the lessons I’ve learned are what have gotten me here.
