Check Out Mykko Montana’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mykko Montana.

Hi Mykko, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m from Clayton county. I grew up in the Church of God and Christ Baptist Church in Ellenwood, Georgia. My uncle played the bass in church and that’s how I fell in love with instruments; from there, I started beating on pots and pans, which led me into identifying sounds that stuck out the most to me.

From there, I started noticing how important the instruments were to the choir and I would go back home taking all that I heard and started singing and harmonizing over beats.

My cousin on my daddy side name MC Shy D is the King of Bass music we would go over his house but my daddy would never let go upstairs I would just hear the bass of his music when they would be watching the recap of his shows hearing that made me want to imitate that sound which led me to start tapping more into that culture of music during that time my parents was splitting up and my momma found a Job in Clayton county and moved me and my sisters to Clayton county one day I was outside in the neighborhood (Oxford Townhomes) and was hearing the same bass when I was at my cousin house with my daddy Me and my friend walked following the sound and it was a Dj (Kizzy Rock) on his porch working on a cd I stopped he introduced himself asking me about music I told him who my cousin was said I’m gonna give you my album and said don’t play it while your momma at home because it got cussing on I went home and hid it but my momma found it she was so mad she walk down knocked on his door cursed him out about giving me the cds fast forward she runs into Kizzy rock again at a car wash finds out he’s a famous Dj and comes home with cds and that’s when it was ok to listen to Rap music.

I asked my momma for a tape recorder and I started recording myself and learning my voice. Get to high school, my desk is my drum I’m freestyling with my friends we leaving school tell each other to come back tomorrow with other topics to rap about the next day

Graduated, got a job at the athletes foot started meeting people who was into music (Paul Leo a producer) we started talking about music my likes favorite artists and sounds and we made a few records together and started performing them at open mics (Mariachi). I started running into other artists (Kcamp kritical Travis porter, etc) from there me and K camp linked up I started going over Kritical house working on a record and telling him to link me kcamp I hit k camp up and he sent me his address I pulled up he had a studio in a house we were on Skype and he starting asking the ppl what type of song should we do together they was throwing out ideas Kritical got on like I’m about to send y’all some beats got the beats the first beat sounded like the sound I would hear in church (do it) kcamp went in his room started writing I stayed in the studio and wrote he came back record me recorded himself and that was the birth of Do it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not always learning the business staying focused, positive and motivated, keeping my love of music.
