Community Highlights: Meet Daverney Freeman of Easy Bakers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daverney Freeman.

Hi Daverney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Social media who can believe actually was the reason Easy Bakers LLC was establish in 2018. I love providing my family with great meals on a budget and thought it I could be a great resource for other families by creating a YouTube channel, Easy Bakers in 2014. As my social media following grew, individuals begin to ask to purchase my cooking. We provide custom catering to the metro Atlanta area, with specializes in hosting infused events. I’m a huge believer of the old concept of paying it forward. At Easy Bakers, we pledge a portion of sales to men and women of color legal fees. We are in the process of helping a young men name Cory Emory in St. Lucie county, Florida to obtain a lawyer so he can have a “fair” chance in court.

Having a small business requires a lot of self-motivation, determination and being focus. When I dedicated to develop Easy Bakers, it was a little scary because it seemed like such a big risk. I was so skeptical of how it would all play out. I mean, my family always compliment my meals and said I was good at what I did, but it’s family and sometimes family can hype you up a little more than necessary! But I felt I had a unique product to market. Before diving in, I spent a good deal of time researching business models, thinking through different scenarios, and developing a business plan. I learned that staying consistent played a major role in my success.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I started a business because I wanted to have more control of my opportunities and my time. However, I found out that being an entrepreneur was harder than I thought, everything is all on me – success, accomplishments, or failures. On top of that, there was a lot I needed to learn and I’m still learning and growing.

It’s been a lot of hard work full of challenges and unusual hours, always looking to go the extra mile to help our clients. Easy Bakers LLC is a small family-oriented business located in Riverdale, Ga that care and invest in the well-being of our community and its future. We vow to source only high-quality foods and ingredients for the dishes that we prepare. We believe that you are as good as what you eat, so we always aim to serve you with love and care to achieve their dream event. But it has paid off — even during the Coronavirus pandemic. I learned new skills and developed a thick skin, so I didn’t just survive but thrived. It’s not easy to take an idea and turn it into reality. I have to confess that being an entrepreneur has tested me in ways I didn’t think possible — but if I had the choice, I would definitely do it again.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Easy Bakers?
Easy Bakers is a small family-oriented business located in Riverdale, Ga that care and invest in the well-being of our community and its future. We vow to source only high-quality foods and ingredients for the dishes that we prepare. We believe that you are as good as what you eat, so we always aim to serve you with love and care. Unlike many catering companies, we specialized in cooking infused foods and drinks. Eating an infused dinner is an evolving process. My style of cooking is a fuse of Southern, Cajun and Italian styles. I meet with clients and determines their objective for a dinner, such as are there any dietary restrictions and what’s their tolerance level. Adding an infused menu brings sexiness and trendsetting to any event. The unique aspect of infused oils and butters is that they can be infused with flavors, like lemon, which has a fruity flavor with the background of an herbal note.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Not everyone is treated equally in the criminal justice system. Racial bias keeps more people of color in prisons and on probation than ever before. One out of every three Black boys born today can expect to go to prison in his lifetime. As a mother of three boys, those stats are scary. My family, like so many others, have family members that have been unfairly treat by the justice system. With Easy Bakers, we want to help make a change. I am proud to say that with each sale a portion of those proceeds will be contributed to a currently incarcerated person of color legal fees. Not only are we passionate about cooking, we love to teach young children how to cook.

We offer fun basic mobile cooking classes for children ages 8 to 17 years old. We focus on kitchen safety and building a passion exploring the world through food. Since our services are mobile, the children are familiar with the environment it helps with their comfortability. The course menu is fully determined by the client’s skill and comfort level. . We also offer a family cooking course that turn a simple dinner into a great family fun activity. I host cooking classes online and offer free cooking tutorials on YouTube.
