Check Out Darlene Kimble’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darlene Kimble.

Hi Darlene, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always been into the beauty industry, I always did hair and said I will have my own hair salon up until I got older and stopped. I worked two jobs at a time thinking that was life and what I wanted to do after I graduated. Between the time I was 19 through 24, I would always get incarcerated, get out went back to the same jobs I had. It was this one time I was doing so good I with myself working and staying out of trouble, I decided to go get my nails done, I went to the nail shop and got my nails done, but I didn’t like them. So I went to my local family dollars and got myself a kiss nail kit, I went home turned on youtube, and started to fix my nails and add a couple of designs to it. So my Lil sisters ask me to do the nails, of course, I did and for some reason, I loved doing them, next thing you know I’m doing my friends and cousins.

One day I decided to just post on Instagram. I was doing $20 full sets. I got two clients the first day, I got more into it, started watching more youtube to learn different techniques and how to do this and that. One of my first clients told me that her nails were coming off the next day. So I really wanted to learn more and perfect my craft. I started buying more products didn’t even know what I was buying at the time some stuff worked some didn’t. I was so annoyed, lol but I didn’t give up. I wanted to give up because you can watch something on tv and try it and it still won’t come out how you wanted, so I just kept watching, kept trying, had me some people I can practice on and never gave up. I was so determined to get it right that I took a nail class at this time. I was working at KFC, I had to sacrifice a couple of times pay this when I get paid this time and pay the rest as I can it was hard but this is something that I really really wanted to do.

In my lifetime, I have tried a couple of things to keep bills paid money flowing but I have never been so happy with getting paid for something I truly love to do. Once I took my class, it was over imagine going into a class knowing what you are doing but you are just trying to perfect and become better, that right there just makes you a whole beast. Investing in myself is the best thing I ever did. Things were very slow at first but I stayed consistent. I didn’t care if I had one like I’m still going to promote me. I was doing hair and nails together at one time I may even do a free set or two just to post a picture and practice, once I started gaining more clientele, more people noticing me, I couldn’t believe it. I got my clients up back home in Florida then I started to travel to Atlanta to see my boyfriend so much I told myself while I’m there, I can also gain a good clientele. Back and forth between both states, I decided I wanted to move to Atlanta. I told myself that I was going to move and I did that. Now I’m here and the sky is the limit with me. Without that man upstairs, I most definitely wouldn’t be here.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
So far, it has been a smooth road with me. I have a lot of faith and I speak everything I say to existence. I definitely keep god first and never get too comfortable always reach for the highest of the highest and that’s what I came for.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a nail artist/mentor. I do very creative nails and also press on nails. I just opened up my press on nail vending machine in Stonecrest mall. I love teaching nail classes, it’s a blessing that people are inspired by me and would actually pay me to learn from me and to actually see them learning and started their own nail business. Many people know me for doing some raw nails and teaching some good classes. I’m so proud of the woman I have become in these past years never seen myself this far in life and I’m actually loving it here. What really sets me apart from others is I love what I do; this is my passion I love creating a blank set into something exclusive.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I always have to take risks, risking bill money to pay for my nail class, buying more products when I didn’t have clients at the time. I took a risk moving to Atlanta all my family is back in Florida I didn’t know what I was facing but I was ready for whatever. I’m most definitely a risk taker.
