Check Out Evelyn Henson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evelyn Henson.

Hi Evelyn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Brushed with a love for all things creative, I grew up in Columbus, GA. After my 3rd-grade teacher pulled me aside for writing “too small” (I had just made tiny handwriting the classroom trend), I probably should have known I would be an artist of some sort, but it took me about a decade after that day to finally pick up the paintbrush. I first discovered my love for painting when I attempted a floral still life as a Mother’s Day gift in 2012 after two friends kindly gave me an old box of paints they didn’t want. I honestly haven’t been able to put down the paintbrush since—there’s something about art that brings out my happiest, brightest self. I started selling my work in May 2013 following my college graduation. At the time, I didn’t know what I was going to do with my life, so let’s just say I’m very thankful that my art business turned out to be more successful than my post-grad job hunt. It started with just a few art prints on Etsy and has slowly evolved into a colorful & happy brand that has been seen in Glamour, Domino, Redbook, & People.com.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely not! I lived at home with my parents in Columbus, GA for about a year to figure out how to make art a sustainable career. There are so many little things to figure out: how to print the art, how to ship it, how to price it, what to paint, etc. It can be overwhelming to start, but my advice to other women would be to just constantly put their work out there. Art is an unconventional career path that takes a lot of hard work and believing in yourself to pursue.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an artist dedicated to creating colorful art and gifts for a more brightly decorated life, where we celebrate the little things and throw love like confetti wherever we go. My main focus is my online store where I sell art prints, stationery, mugs, & other gift items. Recent ventures have included painting the #confettiheartswall mural in Charlotte, NC and illustrating the children’s book “A Good Night for Mr. Coleman” (available on Amazon). No matter what the project is, my goal is to create art that will brighten your day and bring sunshine to your world for years to come. I’m most proud of the happiness and kindness these projects have inspired.
