Today we’d like to introduce you to Paula Nosworthy.
Hi Paula, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story begins at 12 years old. At 12 years old, a seed of rejection was planted in me that grew to become something that took over my mind and caused me to see life through a broken lens. From my teens years up until my late 20’s, I battled with depression, suicidal thoughts, and low self-esteem. I didn’t have a clue about who I was or if I even had a purpose.
As I was growing up on the outside, on the inside, I was still very much a little girl still holding onto the rejection. But while I was questioning life itself and couldn’t even see how broken I really was, God had already orchestrated the steps that would bring me to where I am today.
In 2013, God gave me Beautifully Made which is a ministry dedicated to empowering and encouraging women and young girls to see themselves through the eyes of God. The ministry started out as a YouTube channel with content that was all about helping women in various areas of life. The Lord had begun birthing something in me that wasn’t just for others, but it would become the core of my purpose.
In September 2014, I found myself at the lowest point of my dark place. I was living in a bedroom in a family member’s home with no real job and headed for divorce. That is when the Lord gave me an ultimatum. He said, “Either you can die on the rollercoaster that you’ve been on with depression and suicidal thoughts or, you can fight and if you fight, I will fight with you.” I had nothing left in me to give but I didn’t want to live in darkness anymore so I chose to fight. Although I believed in God from a young age, it was at the point of that decision that my relationship with Him began.
Fast forward to the present day and all I can say is that I am in awe of the woman that I am today. Through the divorce and various other transitions over the past 6 ½ years, I’ve continued to fight so that my future children and the women and young girls that I will meet, will not have to try and figure out how to deal with the valleys of life. I can be there to show them how to find freedom and experience wholeness in God. Our YouTube channel for the ministry is still going strong and we have added other resources such as my first book, Beautiful, Arise as well as life coaching services under Arise Coaching & Consulting.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest struggles that I’ve faced in ministry, business, and just as a woman, would have to be with comparison. Because I came from living with low self-esteem for so long, I had to discover who I was while not becoming someone else in the process. I would see women that I thought were dressed better than me or had more money than me and I would instantly feel as if I was not good enough. Even in ministry and business, I have struggled with the false idea that I don’t have a place.
I felt as if no one would listen to my voice because there were already so many popular ones out there. I battled with comparison for many years until I became confident in the fact that who I am and the purpose that I carry is one-of-a-kind. There is no other woman that can be who I am or do what I do in the way that I do it so comparing myself is just a waste of time. I had to change my standard from what I thought the definition of a woman was based on what I was observing, to embracing who I am as a woman and what I bring to the table.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Certified Life Coach, Minister, Speaker, and Author. My journey over the past 6 ½ years has been what has set the foundation for Beautifully Made LLC and my brand. My passion is to teach women and young girls how to transition from just being healed to experiencing wholeness in God.
To express the journey to wholeness, I always use the visual of climbing out of a pit. When you’re climbing out of a pit, it’s not going to be pretty.
There are things that you are going to uncover that you may not want to deal with and other things that may try to get in your way that you have to fight against. It’s a messy process but as you continue, you will eventually get out of what you’ve been in. This is what healing to wholeness is all about for me and my heart is to help women and young girls come out of their pit so that they can experience true freedom and wholeness.
I want the world to know that healing is about time, but wholeness is about perspective. Under the umbrella of Beautifully Made LLC are my YouTube channel (Paula Nosworthy), Podcast (The Overcomer Podcast), tools and resources including my first book, Beautiful, Arise, as well as life coaching services through Arise Coaching & Consulting. In everything I do or create, I have one goal in my mind…to help God’s daughters heal.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
When it comes to finding a mentor or networking in general, I would say that vulnerability is extremely important. It is hard to receive with a closed hand so you have to be willing to be open so that you can receive the wisdom, resources, and support that you desire. In addition to being vulnerable, I have found that not being fearful of what I don’t know has been a big help.
I have had to accept the fact that, while there are things that I am good at, I don’t know everything! There are people around with gifts and talents that I don’t currently have but if I am afraid to reach out and ask for help, it will only hinder the progression of what I am doing. It is okay not to know something but it is not okay to let pride be the stumbling block against what you’re building.
