Rising Stars: Meet Lord Vizion

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lord Vizion.

Hi Lord, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a rapper from the small town of Jackson, GA which is about 1 hour south of Atlanta. I’ve never really had to answer the question of “What’s your story?” because my story wasn’t anything interesting to me. Things that I went through was normal from my perspective. I started writing poetry around middle school and that transformed into writing stories and that in itself was the main reason why I fell in love with music. I was really introverted throughout my school years and only showcased my writing skills to a select group of people. I didn’t really see myself making a career out of it because I was so stuck in my shell. Fast forward to my freshman year of college is when I told myself that I needed to break out of this shell of mine and really take my writing seriously. So with that, I majored in Mass Communications and started creating music. I was so inexperienced with the music scene and the music business that I had NO CLUE what I was doing. I didn’t even know how to book a studio session or where to find one for that matter. My roommate at the time who was also a musician taught me how to record my own vocals and how to market myself so I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for him.

But even with releasing records here and there on Soundcloud, I found that the only people that were listening to my music was my peers. Granted I appreciated their support but I wanted and needed more but just didn’t know how to achieve that. I knew my music was special and I knew that my music could help a lot of people but I just didn’t know how to reach the masses. I went viral on Twitter before but that was for poetry and not music and that’s where it hit me. I can use my gift of poetry to reel people in and use my gift of music to get them to stay and support. So that’s what I did. I uploaded countless videos of me reciting spoken word and it worked, a lot of people started paying attention to what I had going on. It didn’t happen overnight but the fact that it’s happening now means more to me than anything. I recently released an album titled Parking Lot Conversations, I just gained over 700,000 views on TikTok doing something that isn’t a gimmick. I’ve been networking with industry insiders that are interested in what I got going on. Things are looking up and I’m excited for the next chapter in my career.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It wasn’t a smooth road at all, from dealing with personal struggles & losses it made me want to quit all together. I speak about mental health a lot within my music and my poetry because that’s the battle that I faced the most. 2017 was one of those moments where I just felt like life had defeated me and it did in a sense. Maybe I’ll tell the story in full one day but you’ll just have to tune into the music to find out.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I currently am a rapper from Jackson, GA. I’m known for my storytelling in music and poetry. The thing that I’m most proud of is my work ethic and I think that’s exactly what sets me apart from others. My drive and my willingness to do what’s necessary to get the job done is something I know will continue to take me far.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Networking is THE most important aspect in any area of life. I had to learn that the hard way. You can be the most talented person there is but networking will put you in places that will change your life. It’s like the old saying, “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know”. I think what works for me is the combination of networking and constantly releasing content even when I’m not releasing music. The advice I have for upcoming creatives is to keep releasing content and focus on who is actually supporting you rather than the people who aren’t because they’ll soon come around.
