Check Out Melissa Rojas’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Rojas.

Melissa , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born with 2 portwine stain birthmarks, I started up on Instagram back in 2016 but for the past year I have been very focused on growing and being a role model and inspiration to others. I was born in Florida but raised in Texas, I enjoy traveling and spending time with loved ones. I am currently in college working on getting certified in Social Media, as first generation it can be very challenging learning how to do everything for the first time on my own. As I continue my educational career, I work full time at an elementary school as an Instructional Aide and have grown very much as I learn to work with kids every day. I hope to encourage others to follow their dreams and to strive for better in life.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There are many struggles I have faced. My birthmarks are very visible to others, one covers most of the right side of my face along with my right eye. With that, I have encountered many people who often stare and give judgmental looks but I have learned to put that aside and not let it affect me. When referring to my educational career, I am the first in my family to attend college and there have been many times when it becomes difficult and I have had to learn to reach out and find others who are able to assist me with questions that I have.

When it comes to social media, it can be scary to put yourself out there especially when you look “different” than others but I think it is a good way to encourage others to embrace their differences and that is what makes us all unique.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Aside from my full time job in education, I love being creative. I have a love for photography and social media. Learning more about how to grow and be a good example through social media is very fascinating. I believe photography is a way of sharing beautiful moments in life and I love taking pictures of everything I am able to see.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My family and educators have been the biggest impact in my life. My mom has always been there supporting me and encouraging me to keep going when I have felt like giving up. My nieces and nephews are my greatest motivation, I want to be a good example in their lives and someone who can positively encourage them to do great things in life.
