Meet Jimesia Jackson of Blueprints to Baskets in Lithonia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimesia Jackson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a Georgia native and a mom to a gorgeous and smart twelve year old daughter, she’s the reason I work so hard. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit, and considered a few business ventures but never acted on them. I allowed my fear of failing to hinder my progress in starting my own company. When my daughter was born, my entrepreneurial spirit began to intensify. I felt trapped in the job I had, I knew I wanted more, but I was living a life of complacency. I worked the regular nine to five, but I was an absent parent. I started to receive calls from individuals who wanted me to assist them in starting a business, partner with them, or do the ground work for a business. These were all things that I was good at, but was too afraid to do it for myself. A few months before being laid off, a friend asked me what I wanted to do, or liked to do to do. I made a list of all my interests and hobbies, and found that making gift baskets allowed me to be creative and expressive, but I also found passion and therapy through creating gifts that exceeded my own expectations. Seeing the expressions of joy and surprise on the many faces that received my gifts was humbling, and gave me assurance that I made the right decision to follow my heart in doing what I love and stepping out on faith in building my own empire.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a new business was intimidating and yes, there have been obstacles. The most challenging part was deciding not to go back into the corporate world. Things are different when the financial stability of a full time job is not present. There were times when I thought about going back to a stable job just to ensure the bills were paid. There were times when I wanted to throw in the towel, but then I remember that my biggest cheerleader, my daughter is watching. I want her to witness my adversity but also watch me fulfill my dream so as she gets older she will put forth every effort to execute her dreams. The other trial was introducing myself and retraining consumers thinking about gift baskets in order to build clientele and gain the trust of my clients. Last but not least, social media has been a huge challenge! I went from never doing it to having to do it, LOL!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that Atlanta is constantly growing! More people are moving here, I like to see the array of different cultures. More business opportunities and jobs are becoming available, and the city is undergoing major improvements. The one thing that I like least is the traffic! It’s terrible, LOL!
