Check Out Madina Robinson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madina Robinson.

Hi Madina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I moved to Jacksonville, Fl in 2014 I had no job and no money. Aside from doing modeling gigs here and there, I needed a more steady income. I found my first acting job on Craigslist. An improv dinner theater company out of California wanted to open a franchise in Jacksonville and was looking for actors. I auditioned. It was my first acting audition, EVER. But I booked it. I then began performing at the Jacksonville Omni Hotel 2-3 Saturday’s a month as an improv actor for Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Company. A year after doing this I landed my first agent and signed with Premier Talent. I began booking commercial work and auditioning for more paid roles. After 5 years of this cycle, I decided to move to Atlanta Ga to pursue a television and film career.

I’ve been living in Atlanta for 3 years now. I’m currently looking for representation here in the Southeast but I’ve booked roles without an agent or manager in commercial shoots for Credit Karma, television spots for shows such as For My Man on TV One and Personal Injury Court on the CW, and I’m currently studying my craft at ActHer Studios here in Atlanta.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been easy. Chasing an acting career while making ends meet is always a challenge. You need money to invest in an acting career so having a “job” is sometimes essential to this journey but does not always allow you the freedom to pursue your passion as much as you would like. I went from wanting a corner office as a fashion buyer to wanting to be a storyteller as my life’s work. Desperately wanting to entertain. I oftentimes question this path and my purpose in it. If I’m doing the right thing. If it’s for me.

Depression is very real for me and I often have to remind myself that my talent will one day speak for itself and that this journey is a marathon, not a sprint. It’s a job daily to keep my mental health intact. As an actor, you hear more No’s than Yeses and those No’s can cause a lot of self doubt.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an actor. I’ve been acting professionally for 6 years now. I’ve done television, film, commercial and print modeling. What sets me apart from other actors is my diverse look. I’m 36 years old, however, I can still play teenage and young adult roles while still bringing an unspoken maturity to them. I also have over ten years of modeling experience which means I’m extremely comfortable in front of the camera in wherever way I’m needed. What I’m most proud of is my ability to adapt. When it comes to acting, I’m usually able to fall into any scene at any time. I become grounded quickly and become what’s needed for the scene.

Outside of that, I’m also proud of my 1st degree black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do and my Master’s degree from Louisiana Tech University.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck has nothing to do with my life. Everything I’ve accomplished, I’ve worked for. Every choice I’ve made has led me through this journey. Good or bad. However, if luck wants to suddenly appear and be on my side, I’ll take it.
