Today we’d like to introduce you to Deja Thelemaque.
Hi Deja, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been passionate about everything girly! Growing up I loved to do my hair and dress up. It’s when I got into high school I started dabbling into makeup. I would stay up all night on school days and watch YouTube tutorials on my favorite influencers not even realizing God was grooming me for this industry. I went to college praying to God for him to show me my purpose still very confused & then it was like a toon of bricks hit me. Makeup artist! The fear is stepping into something new scared me but that nudge in my spirit to leap is what sealed the deal. I dropped out of college and have been a full time makeup artist ever since.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My biggest struggle was to literally have the faith that I wouldn’t fail in this industry. Makeup had always been there. Always was something in the back of mind . I just didn’t have the confidence to actually put the work behind it. Once I broke free of all my anxiety & fears. I realized I was able to concur anything I set my mind to.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an Atlanta-based makeup artist/esthetician. I am here to bring out the most radiant side of each and every one of my clients . I take pride in knowing not only do I beat faces I also move spirits which means every session is a personal experience for me.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love how in the city of Atlanta it’s so many young black entrepreneurs. The hustle is crazy & I love to see it. I just gives me so much hope for the future . If we tackling our goals like this now I can only image the big things we’re gonna accomplish in the future . What I like least about Atlanta is the negativity. We as a group can collectively come together and do better for our city. Overall we need to love on each other more & stop with the hate envy and jealously.
