Today we’d like to introduce you to Phoenix Kozak.
Hi Phoenix, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My hair journey started in 2010 at The Paul Mitchell School in Birmingham, Al. Two years after graduating, I moved to Atlanta to join Van Michael Salon as a cutting specialist. I spent six years perfecting my craft and learned from some of the best stylists in the industry. I eventually had an itch for a new adventure and started my own business. That’s when “Phoenix Hair Vibes” was born.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I went to hair school at age 19 and spent the first decade of my career discovering how life works and navigating through the lessons of one’s 20s. It was a wild ride, but I wouldn’t change any of it. Understanding my limits not only behind the chair but also in my personal life for my physical and mental health has been an ongoing battle and one of the hardest lessons. Being out on my own has taught me that it’s possible to balance my life in a way that works best for me and my human experience. Everyone’s journey is different, which means success comes in many beautiful ways. I am grateful for everything, as it helped create the person and stylist I am today.
As you know, we’re big fans of Phoenix Hair Vibes. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a local queer stylist that welcomes everyone into my chair. It’s important to me to create a safe space for anyone exploring who they are and who wants to express themselves authentically, with a little bit of my help. It is also vitally important that I work in an Eco-Friendly environment and use sustainable products. I’m currently working out of Hemlock Salon & Apothecary, a Certified Green Circle Salon. We recycle up to 95% of everything in the salon, including hair and leftover color, and we use organic/vegan products that keep my soul happy! I am a HUGE pet lover, and if you enjoy sharing 20 of the same photos of your fur baby sleeping and talking about all of their cute quirks, I’m the girl for you. I specialize in Personalized Haircuts and Keratin Treatments. The Keratins include a milder, wear-your-hair-natural look; or Magic Sleek, a treatment that gives you smoothness all the time. My favorite part of the service is when my clients choose a thought from my “Positive Thoughts Jar.” This little glass jar contains colorful pieces of paper with positive thoughts or affirmations. It means a lot when clients share how a Positive Thought may have influenced them and passed it along to brighten someone else’s day. Being kind to others and considerate of their needs helps me lead a peaceful life and grounded life.
