Conversations with Jay Vinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Vinson.

Hi Jay, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a passion of starting my sports media business dating back to my time in undergraduate school at Auburn University. I received my bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication (Radio, TV, and Film) and even worked in the athletic department on campus at Auburn with the SEC Network as a camera operator, 3play operator, and producer. After graduating from Auburn, I moved to the metro Atlanta area where I began working for NBCUniversal Comcast Sports Southeast as a video editor and camera operator. We covered every Collegiate and professional sport in the southeast region from the SEC, ACC, Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Braves, and other professional teams. After working there for one year due to the company going out of business, I was fortunate to do some freelance production work within the city for Housewives of Atlanta until I was hired by the Georgia Dome productions in 2014. I served in every capacity working behind the scenes as a camera operator and 3play operator until they transitioned to the Mercedes Benz Stadium.

Even during my time working with the Georgia Dome productions that’s when I went back to school and worked on my first master’s degree at University of West Georgia, and during my time at UWG I worked with the football program as a camera operator until I received my master’s degree in May of 20217. With my experience of working for several professional and collegiate organizations, it prepared me for what I am doing today. I am currently living out my purpose by teaching high school students Audio, Video, Technology, and Film in the metro Atlanta area. I teach all of my students the ends and out of pre-production, production, and post-production. It has been a great joy teaching them on a daily basis, and with much prayer and faith, I was able to launch my sports media production company called Elite Sports Production in the month of November of 2021. Our sports media company is consist of weekly podcasts, weekly coaches show, short documentaries, players and coaches press conference/post game show, sport episodes, players highlight reel, and interviews with players and coaches for all sports. So far we have covered local high school football programs, Georgia Tech Women’s Basketball program, the SEC Championship Fan Fare, and the 2021 TaxAct Camellia Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama where Georgia State University Football played Ball State University Football.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As being a fairly new sports media company, we have had our shares of ups and downs, but overall so far it has been a great journey. We have made several connections with different media outlets and journalist who have helped us every step of the way as we embarked on this journey within the sports media industry. Another thing that has worked for our company is the use of social media especially Twitter as we had several athletes in other states who are looking to turn their film into a highlight reel. But, overall, it’s going great.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?

Our mission is to enrich the lives of those who participate in any sport around the world by providing great customer service, innovative content solutions through video, and media exposure that will help each student athlete perform well on the field and off the field. I am most proud of my growth over these years as I have worked within the sport industry when it comes to sport media production, and as being a minority organization, I love how our organization is constantly growing daily locally and globally. I am also proud to have a great group of team that consists of high school football coaches who produces weekly podcast with other high school and collegiate coaches, as well as who helps me cover other high school and collegiate teams. What set us apart from others as being the CEO of this great company and background experience within the Sport media industry my team and I brings a great amount off experience to what we do and how we not only cover collegiate programs but we also cover local and surrounding high schools. Also, we set up each student athlete and athletic programs for success through media coverage and highlight reels.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
There are several individuals who deserves credit and have had a huge impact not only on my life but also with our business that we have launched a couple of months ago. The first two people that deserve the credit is my parents who have been my biggest support system for years and have been very supportive in my decision to launch Elite Sports Production. Another person is my oldest brother who played collegiate ball at Auburn University and is currently teaching and coaching football. He has been one of biggest supporters when it comes down to my gift and talents with video production, editing athletes highlights and etc. There are several other individuals I have worked with who are high school football coaches, mentors, friends, life coaches, and faith leaders who deserves credit as they have been a great support system in everything that I go to do in life and especially my business ventures. One of the high school coaches name Coach Bumpers who is the offensive line coach at Duluth high school has been a tremendous blessing in my life. I consider him a brother and he has been supportive in everything I go to do, and he currently serves on our team as our 3rd & 6 podcast host.
