Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Holyfield.
Hi Andrea, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Originally from Akron, OH I committed a cardinal sin and followed my boyfriend here years ago. I always knew that I wanted to leave Akron but didn’t have my own plan of my own. The relationship quickly fell apart and I accepted the first job that I could in order to provide for myself and my daughter (I was a young mom). I didn’t have much guidance or direction when it came to career opportunities. I was a first-generation college student with no real mentor or anything so I spent a lot of time in a job that didn’t make me happy.
After working that job for years, I decided to go back to school so that I could do something that I would enjoy. I obtained a master’s in professional counseling and became a Career Counselor. I have provided career development, career transition and career management in a variety of settings including higher education, non-profit and corporate. I enjoyed being able to help people accomplish their goals.
As I got older and experienced life and started thinking about what I was passionate about I begin studying things like gardening, color psychology, manifestation and spirituality. I completed a certification in water therapy. I started studying and growing herbs. The more I learned, the more I wanted to incorporate those elements into my work. So in 2020, at the height of the global pandemic, I quit my job to open my own practice. The timing was crazy and I was scared at first, but business has been good.
The work that I do now is more holistic than just career coaching. I help women navigate change. I like to say that I help good people have more. My ideal client is a woman who is feeling an urge to change something and her life (career, business, income, etc.) and is motivated to do so but needs a plan, structure and accountability. I work with clients who are looking to shift their direction and it’s more of a need than an idea.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I turned in my notice in February of 2000. On my last day, there were only three people in the office. Everything was shut down because of COVID. I was terrified that I’d made a huge mistake. I was walking away from a salary, benefits and health insurance while everyone in the world was getting sick. That initial fear kept me from giving my business my all in the beginning. I took on a couple of hourly contract assignments because I thought I needed that work to survive.
I had to shift my belief system the way that I coach my clients to shift theirs. Once I changed the way that I looked at things, the things that I looked at changed. All of the sudden, I had this huge opportunity in front of me. People where reexamining their lives and their values and I was perfectly positioned to help them.
We’ve been impressed with The Wealthy Well Woman, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Through The Wealthy Well Woman, I partner with women all over the country who want to experience change but feel stuck. Because of my many years in the career coaching space, I’m uniquely suited to help my client create change strategies related to work and because of my professional counseling background I can recognize when there are past trauma affecting her.
I am not a practicing counselor anymore, so I recently became certified in neurolinguistic programming. NLP allows me to help clients confront past trauma, eliminate limited beliefs and develop supportive systems and rituals so that they can be their best selves.
There are tons of career coaches and career counselors out there who can help someone with a resume or practice interviewing. My clients want someone to help them on a more foundational level. Yes. I can audit your LinkedIn profile and review your resume, but that’s not my sweet spot. I enjoy transformation. I’ve helped women change their belief system and attract double their salary. I’ve worked with women who know that they should be doing more heart or soul-centered work, but their stuck. I help women get out of their own way.
A Wealthy Well Woman session might include anything from a resume review to a hypnosis session or a lesson on utilizing bath water to manifest money. There’s nothing traditional about my work or my clients.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
As horrible and devastating as the pandemic has been for so many, it has also been an opportunity. Many of my clients wouldn’t have had the time to squeeze in our work with their daily commute and parental responsibilities. A lot of us were walking around like Zombies and this was just enough of a jolt to shake us up and make us face the fact that days are passing by. So many of us have so much to give, but we’re stuck on the hamster wheel. Considering loss of life made us assign more value to our day-to-day.
We have this one life that we know of. COVID continues to remind us to make sure that we’re building our legacy now because tomorrow is not promised.
