Inspiring Conversations with Michelle Romain-Garcia of Samin Cosmetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Romain-Garcia.

Hi Michelle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
At the height of the pandemic many of us were uncertain of what the future held. My friends now turned business partners would spend our time socializing on discord and playing games. One day, during our daily gaming sessions we started talking about how cool it would be to create a business that represents us. We are gamers, cosplayers, anime fanatics, and skincare enthusiasts and did not see much representation in the skincare space. So we decided why not create the representation we want to see ourselves. Being our in house licensed esthetician, I immediately started working on potential formulas for our first product. We worked with a chemist over months to make sure that the product was up to our standards. Once the product was properly formulated we wanted to create a mascot which represents us. So we created Po B, a librarian polar bear that acts as a stern and stoic librarian by day but let’s go of this façade at night when he engages in his nerdy activities. With our mascot, formulation, and finer details complete we were finally ready to bring our company, Samin Cosmetics, into the market.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was easy brainstorming and coming up with our business plan, but much harder getting it started. We had a few obstacles along the way especially when sourcing local manufacturers due to supply chain congestion. Due to these issues, our product release schedule was upended. As first-time business owners, this was one of the many intricacies we learned from creating a legal business. There are still many things for us to learn but so far, we believe that we have a handle on it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Samin Cosmetics was specifically designed for people with acne prone/ sensitive skin in mind. So we created Dew Diligence body cream which promotes a healthy moisture barrier for your skin by supplying the skin with nutrients such as: calendula, three types of ceramides, honey, and a few other skin nourishing ingredients. While creating our brand, we thought about how our community of anime fans, cosplayers, and gamers often get left out of the conversation when it comes to luxury skincare. We believe that leaning upon our interest and our community is what sets up apart from the more serious/larger skincare brands. The main takeaway we want readers to know about our brand is that we deeply care about representing you and making luxury approachable to those that often get overlooked.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Starting our business in the middle of the pandemic has taught us to not fear setting goals to accomplish our dreams. If you don’t start now when will you ever?
