Daily Inspiration: Meet Tatiana BruEll

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana BruEll.

Hi Tatiana, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The formation of my brand began with my diagnosis of lupus which was a pivotal moment in my life. On one hand this was bad because there’s unfortunately no cure but the good news was that now, after going to doctors since a child, I finally had the confirmation that it wasn’t in my head and now had the crucial choice to make: either sink or swim.

Sinking wasn’t an option for me, not by a landslide; so I decided to swim which is an ongoing daily process trying to stay afloat suffering from a lifelong chronic disease that can have symptoms that come on abruptly at any moment from walking on my own at the start of the day to later on that same day needing assistance with either my cane or wheelchair.

As sad as it might sound to have a disease like lupus, I found tapping into my creative God-given talents of creating custom accessories and cosmetics has been oh so soothing for me both mentally and emotionally. Creating gives me a special high sprinkled with a sense of overall well-being that I feel after completing a custom project because I try to live my life with the motto: I have lupus, lupus doesn’t have me. #lupusWarrior

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Having lupus is definitely both a struggle and presents a challenge being that it’s hard to stay fully committed to events due to a flare. The biggest not bump but halt in the road happened in 2016 when my best friend Teddy died. He was my cheerleader in every way, even designed my first logo in 2014. I’ve recently been trying to get back to things that made me happy prior to his untimely death; I know that’s what he would had wanted.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I started off crafting lipsticks in my mother’s kitchen. I began experimenting with just a spoon a candle & sometimes stove to melt down the waxes and pigments. I recently expanded creating custom accessories such as glasses which I never myself cared to wear until a few years ago, I had a vending event for my cosmetics and had such a huge pimple that glasses hid very well, and I’ve been wearing glasses ever since what I thought was going to be the worse day ever…. instead I made lemonade out of lemons.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
It’s definitely showed me that you shouldn’t put you or yourself brand in a box in order to be prepared financially for whatever life may throw your way.
