Daily Inspiration: Meet Ziyana Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ziyana Smith.

Hi Ziyana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started lashing at the peak of COVID in March 2020 but always had an interest in it. I did makeup in High School then attended Cosmetology School to continue to pursue the Beauty field. I started taking my lashing and makeup more serious in the Winter of 2020 and have been doing it ever since. I created Minked Winkz LLC in late 2020 and made it official early 2021.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been the easiest to do lashes or even run my own business. It’s easy to get overwhelmed and discouraged in this field because there are so many other talented artists that can do what you do. But I had a lot of support and kept my main focus on how I wanted my business to be ran and what I expected out of myself for my clients and kept it going from there.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a three time certified lash technician, as well as a certified makeup artist. I specialize in healthy but glammed lash extensions. I make sure to put my clients’ health and comfort before anything else but also give them what they are looking for. I am most proud of my progress in lashing, and I don’t think there are other lash techs that are like me! I definitely put my clients first in every way, and that’s just one thing that sets me apart from others in this business.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I have had the biggest support in my father. He asked me what I wanted to do and has put in effort to help me get to where I am today. He initially convinced me to go to beauty (Cosmetology) school, where I learned a lot more about skincare and personal health in the beauty world and continues to back me in whatever I want to do with my business. I owe him a big thank you! And of course a few close friends who have supported me since day one!
