Today we’d like to introduce you to Deshana Thomas.
Hi Deshana, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was the little girl who always said I would be wealthy, luxurious and wouldn’t work for anyone. My parents of course took me as a joke being that I was so young but it was something in me that I knew I needed to express to the world. I have always been into beauty, skincare and hair from since I was in high school. I started to explore makeup my 11th grade year of high school but I couldn’t do much. My mom and dad was not a fan of me getting into makeup like that but they have always been supportive. My whole family knew how I felt about it and they let me use it to express myself. Starting back in high school I would do eyeliner, concealer and powder and the girls loved It because it was so natural. They seen my potential and asked “why don’t you create a YouTube channel and do makeup videos?” I said I could do that. I’ve always been into Youtube since I was young so I took my chance with it and never looked back. I previously had a YouTube but it wasn’t for what I wanted to do originally. So I rebranded and continued to build my platform to get it to where it is today “SHANADADON”. I felt that making my YouTube channel is the way I can connect with people similar to me and my interests. I found that recording and making my videos would help me with also with expressing myself more and being more outspoken. It gave me the exposure I needed and to also build confidence within myself. After I created my channel things started moving quickly, my subscribers went up tremendously and so did my views. I started receiving brand deals with hair companies such as (Unice, Nadula, Beauty Forever, and so on). I enjoyed always having my hair done and looking classy by keeping it natural and cute. The best part about it all is that everything was all done by me. Everything I have done today, on my channel is by me and I am extremely grateful and blessed to have this many talents.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting my YouTube wasn’t super smooth being that I went to college and I had to learn how to manage my time. Procrastination was my best friend and I literally was struggling with that. I require structure and organization with everything. So if I am not organized nothing will get done. I have to clear all clutter to move forward with that being said, I wasn’t using my free time wisely, I was always sleeping and being lazy which I despite. And then I got pregnant with my first son and then I got pregnant again with my daughter right after. It wasn’t hard but more procrastination came and months started to pass. People started to look at me different and say that the lifestyle I want isn’t for me. But one day, I got up and asked myself “How bad do I want it”. I knew I wanted my kids to live the life I have always wanted, debt-free, and being able to do whatever it is they wanted to do without any stop signs. I knew the potential I had within myself, I knew who I could have become. Having God by my side and with that knowledge that’s all I needed to keep going.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an entrepreneur and an influencer. I am an upcoming Makeup Artist in ATL, GA @donxluxe (Instagram mua page). I am a content creator for (YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram) @shanadadon on all platforms. I also have something special this year for my new business stay tuned for more updates on my main account @shanadadon. I specialize in makeup and I am known for all things beauty, fashion skincare and wig making. I also specialize in nails to shh you heard it first.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My support systems include my boyfriend, my parents, the rest of my family, and people from schools I have attended. My boyfriend @mjwitdabagg (Instagram platform/upcoming artist) has been supporting me since day 1. He has never doubted me and always encourages me to be who I want to be and tells me don’t let anything or anyone discourage me or make me think different. He is very positive and believes in me so much and I can honestly say he’s amazing for that I love him so much. My mom is amazing, love, love, love her! She has been there since literally forever, she has been the most supportive person as well. She actually invested in me with my equipment ( my camera and laptop). She makes sure everyone at her job receives my posts and I never have to tell her to promote me. My dad is very supportive as well, he watches my videos and also my family channel videos @dabaggfamilytv ( on all platforms ). He makes sure he reposts as well without me having to say anything and I am extremely grateful. As for everyone else, they all have played a major role in giving me all the support I needed to be where I am today.
