Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Burks.
Hi Jordan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Things started for me when I got fired from my job a few years back. I feel like those few months of uncertainty and just all that time to myself was the turning point for me. I never wanted to be in that position again, I’ve always had a creative mind. I just needed something to focus in on to show that side of me. Clothes was something I took interest in and now I’ve found a love for it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course not, but that’s with anything worth having. The road will never be easy, I’ve had to rebrand put my business on hold multiple times whether it was personal issues, manufacturer problems, etc. You just have to enjoy the struggle as much as you do the victories.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m the CEO of Solitaire Clothing company. A small business started a couple of years ago. Since it was started, it’s grown each year slowly but surely & it will be one of the most successful brands in Michigan. I’m most proud of the fact everything I manifested years ago is coming into fruition. Still work to do though, I try not to focus on others but to answer the question. I feel my drive is what sets me apart. I won’t let nobody or nothing stop me from chasing my dreams.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Yes, I feel in the next 5-10 years Solitaire will have ran a successful online business, becoming very popular across the world, then eventually expanding to actual stores based in certain cities.
I credit my success to my mother most importantly. She’s a big part in who I am today, seeing how hard she’s worked all her life as a single mother just taught me that whether I’m independent or assisted, I’m going to work hard for the things I want at all costs. I credit my brothers for instilling this unwavering confidence in me & always encouraging me to be myself. At times they believed in me more than I was so I will always credit them for being huge staples in my life. Lastly, I credit my father for keeping me humble, respectful, and having character. He showed me the proof of treating others how you want to be treated. Who we are as people will take us further than the things we do in life.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
