Daily Inspiration: Meet Tenecia Long

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tenecia Long.

Tenecia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a 38 years old black woman. I’ve been crafting for as long as I can remember. My earliest memory is a cardboard house I built out of shoes boxes at around 7 or 8 years old. I started my official crafting business (llc) in 2019. I make tons of things from t-shirts to balloon arches. I’m 100% self-taught. I pride myself on my ability to make my customer’s ideas come to life no matter how complex. Before crafting, I was a Hairstylist/barber. Even a stylist people loved me because no matter how elaborate the idea was for a style, I could execute it with my creativity. Growing up, I was always the artsy girl, super creative. The pandemic is really what forced me into taking my art/crafting seriously. The break from working made me realize that I really need to put my business 1st. I haven’t had my big break yet but 2022 is a new year with new opportunities and I working hard to build my brand.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I struggle with severe anxiety and adhd. Both of those things make it hard for me to stay focused. But it’s also the reason I’m so creative and always learning new things to add to my business. In August 2020, I suffered with depression and gave up on my business, I let my online shop close and all. I’m now in therapy and with the help of my therapist and family, I’m doing much better and my website is back up and running.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an artist/crafter. I specialize in doing custom work of all kinds. My customers love me because of my ability to bring their ideas to life, from custom party favors, banners, mugs, tumblers, clothing and house decor. I’m most proud of my creativity, my ability to listen, create a mental picture and then bring the customer’s ideas to life.

People would be surprised to that if I doing this work for free, I would because I truly love what I do.
