Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Spry.
Melanie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My professional makeup journey began in January 2015. My first time wearing makeup was for my High School Graduation (C/O 1999). My mother did my makeup. I loved the finished look. After that moment, I begin showing interest in makeup. Fast forward years later, in 2009 I began to study makeup application, how to properly care for skin, and gained product knowledge. My passion turned into becoming a Professional Makeup Artist. I was a walking canvas. Clients from another business venture I was involved in would ask me if I would do their makeup for special events, weddings, photoshoots, or an evening out. From my passion, studying makeup, attending classes, and learning proper skincare, clients would book and pay me to do their makeup, confirmed I was talented, and needed to pursue my gift of creating a beautiful space where others love themselves completely.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road hasn’t been smooth, but it hasn’t been rough for me. In the makeup/beauty industry, I knew early on who my target clients are. Knowing my style of makeup application and what I specifically target when completing makeup help me remain in “my lane”. The makeup world loves to follow trends or re-create with a twist. Basics fundamentals are key! Knowing my why is what has sustained me from major obstacles/challenges along the way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Professional Freelance Makeup Artist, creator, and owner of Majestic Knowing Beauty Artistry. I specialize and curate natural yet enhanced makeup looks for the everyday working person, media, television, and film. I am known for being relatable to my client’s wants and needs when they sit in my chair. I teach them how to create effortless looks on their own. I like to have my clients feel like the look we created is their signature look, created specifically for them. In theory, the look is created for them, their face shape, eye shape, brow, lip, and cheek structure. No face is the same!
I’m most proud to share last year, I started posting beauty content on my YouTube channel. I created the channel back in 2013. Last year I decided to take the platform seriously and start sharing beauty content with the world. I’ve enjoyed creating content and engaging with my subscribers who I call MK Beauties. YouTube is another outlet for me to share my passion for beauty with others virtually.
I believe what sets me apart from others is not wavering in my why. Psalms 139:14 says, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are your works.” I do not look to alter my client, only enhance their natural God-given beauty. I specialize in skin-like finishing glam.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
As I mentioned, staying true to my why. Building lasting relationships with clients so they become repeat clients. Maintaining honestly by educating my clients on what will or will not work for them. Lastly, being relatable.
