Check Out Marisa Carson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisa Carson.

Hi Marisa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was an athlete growing up. I played soccer, I was a hardcore swimmer, I did gymnastics, I was always moving. I graduated high school and went to college 12 hours away from home and started to lose who I was. I was creating bad habits. I was staying out late, not sleeping well, making very unhealthy food choices and I started drinking quite a bit. I was in several awful relationships in my downward spiral and one day when I hit rock bottom, I realized I needed to make some changes because no one was going to do it for me, I started back over for what seemed like the hundredth time. I was laser locked into a fitness routine again. I was self-studying different ways to improve my time in and out of the gym. I started falling in love with myself again and becoming so proud of what my body could do! I had been bartending at the time and had been in the service industry for over ten years. When COVID first hit, I made the decision to leave the bar and really create my dream career. I studied A LOT and got my certifications as a personal trainer and a group fitness instructor. I started working with Orangetheory Fitness in Gainesville and within a year, I took on the role as head coach! On the side, I was creating at home workout guides for those who weren’t comfortable getting back into the gym yet and saw amazing results! Through my experiences, I just want to teach as many people as I can that loving yourself again is possible. You can bounce back and become the best version of yourself.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not entirely smooth. There were some bumps along the road. Early on, before OTF, I was struggling to start up my online business. I didn’t know how to market myself and I was kind of going through some imposter syndrome. Like, why would anyone trust me to help them make these big changes? The more people I talked to and then more groups and clients I obtained the more comfortable I got. The results started coming in, physically and mentally, and I knew I was doing something good.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I started solely as an online trainer due to the pandemic and quarantine. I created different guides that allow people to follow a plan either at home or at the gym, but I incorporated some journal prompts and active recovery exercises to allow for some mental changes alongside the physical ones. Now, I coach full-time at Orangetheory Fitness in Gainesville. I am the head coach and am so in love with my job! I specialize in weight training and coaching proper form. I love teaching people how to lift properly and go into the science behind it. I think what sets me apart is that I will always be in your corner. I will always push you out of your comfort zone because I don’t think good things happen there. We have to allow ourselves the opportunity to uncomfortable daily in order to make big changes. I will ALWAYS have your back.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
As far as OTF goes, I think we’ll continue to open studios. I think we’ll continue to grow and I think we’ll continue to give so many more people more life everyday. In my personal endeavors, I’d love to build even better guides and I’d love to get more certifications to dive deeper into my craft.
