Hi Charde’ CJ, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Atypical Appeal was born out of a need for personal expression and the want to have something that represented me. In society today, there is a trend of trying to conform into a box of what is beautiful. My brand, at its core is about embracing what specifically makes you beautiful. The idea is to change the mindset that you have to look, act or dress a specific way to be considered attractive or excepted. Now you may ask, white T-shirts? In my opinion, a T-shirt is the best way to express your personal identity. A T-shirt has gone from Being an insignificant piece of clothing to a personal storyboard for your own views, beliefs or personal identity. Because of the versatility of a T-shirt you can dress it up or down and make a statement that expresses your views in just about any setting. For this reason, I birthed the T-shirt brand Atypical Appeal.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, absolutely not. Overcoming the fear to do something that not everyone is doing and put yourself out there is the first step and that’s the easy part. Investing in yourself is just that an investment. It cost money! I am personally running a small business while still working a full-time job. Juggling running your own business and also working require a skillful amount of time management, dedication and discipline. Many times your first idea is not as successful as you would hope. Therefore, you have to make a decision between continuing in that same direct or reinventing the wheel. So, to answer the question again it has not been a smooth road. It has been rocky but every victory or success has been amazing. Sometimes I look forward to challenges because they require me to become more creative, Think outside of the box, network.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Atypical Appeal began As a quick turnaround custom order business for women’s T-shirts. Atypical Appeal has evolved into a T-shirt Brand that currently showcases a Woman’s line – “Atypical Beauty.” We recently launched a men’s line -“Atypical Beast” that has extremely exceeded our original business plan and gained overwhelming popularity. The unexpected success of Our men’s line definitely embodies our slogan. “An Energy too Personal to Define”.

We specialize in sizes S-4x. Atypical Appeal prides itself on Supporting local artists, businesses, and community events. Atypical Appeal prefers to use local vendors to ensure quality products and also to give back to other Atlanta-based businesses. We also love to use real people that actually wear our product and embrace the #BeTheConversation. Atypical Appeal is always looking for new faces. Each of our models is a local Atlanta Based Artist, personality, influencer, business or resident that is profiled on our social media. We want to get to know you support you and would love for you to do the same with us.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love all of Atlanta! The culture, the grunge, the diversity, the opportunity! However, I hate the traffic. There is so much to see, So much sheer beauty. There are literally a million hidden gems. It would take years to visit all of them. The traffic In Atlanta will keep you stationary. Atlanta is a Black Mecca by definition because of the economic opportunities, its roots in black history, arts, music, food, and Thriving black businesses and political influence. If you can weather the traffic, you are definitely in for a treat!
