Hidden Gems: Meet Hannah Hutcheson of Horizon Healing Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Hutcheson.

Hi Hannah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
While I had no plans to open a yoga studio, I mentioned one evening to friends how I would run a studio and only four days later, someone had given me an opportunity to take over their lease, purchase their props, and start my own studio. I was in complete shock, but I couldn’t let the town I grew up in and love dearly miss out on yoga for everybody. I wanted to create a place where everybody could come and practice yoga. With no judgment on looks, experience, etc. A safe place for people to come and find health and healing all in one. This was something I had searched for in my own healing journey- and when I couldn’t find it- I decided to take the leap and create it!

I began my own yoga journey 19 years ago and it was hard to find classes near me. Living near the foothills of the mountains, it just wasn’t as common. So I did DVDs and took classes at Kennesaw State. Years later when I was going through a huge transformation in my life, I came back to yoga and found a studio that took me in. In that the owner encouraged me to do yoga teacher training. I saw how transformational it was in my own life and my own mental health- that I knew I had to share this. Fast forward to a few years later, I was the owner of an amazing yoga studio in downtown Canton filled with the most beautiful souls you would ever meet. The souls that walk through the door make Horizon Healing Center what we are and that is what makes us so special. Everyone becomes friends and family. Most of the people that come through are new to yoga so it is really fun to share this healing practice that has been so profound in my own healing journey. We are a hodgepodge of fun! We have many different styles of teachers, a 200hr and 300hr yoga teacher training program, lots of fun events like Red Tents and Women’s Circles. We are all about embracing our uniqueness and coming together to make commUNITY!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Oh man. Is life ever a smooth road? No. My husband and I had just gotten married when I began the studio so we had NO and I mean no money saved for it. It took probably a year for me to even have money for bolsters and we still giggle about how excited I was when we bought four. While I have a Master’s in Industrial Organizational Psychology, I did not learn anything about business management, how to run quickbooks, what all licenses I needed, etc. So it has been lots of fun learning experiences over the last six years. I taught 90% of the classes for the longest time until I had my son who is now three. My blood, sweat, and tears are part of the foundation of the studio and they continue to show up here and there when things need some extra love. COVID also was a very rough time for all yoga studios. The main reason we made it our community. They donated and came together when we had to be shut down for two months. We had pivoted to online classes (which we knew nothing about) but that still wouldn’t cover all utilities. I watched many peers suffer and close their doors. I attribute our success to the community and the amazing Downtown Canton Development Department.

We’ve been impressed with Horizon Healing Center, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Horizon Healing Center is a place that anyone can stumble into, no matter what “condition” they may be in, and seek refuge in a safe space. It is a place for everybody, every soul. You are not an object here… you are a subject- a soul that we are so blessed to be sharing space with. And we are all just walking each other home.

Some people may feel intimidated about moving their body in a group of “strangers”, but you’ll never meet a stranger at Horizon. A safe space where you can move your body and fall in love with yourself. A place where you can let go of your daily duties and tap into your mind. A place where you can go to get away from the hustle and bustle and perhaps- get a little closer to Spirit.

Our goal at Horizon is to provide a pathway to self-discovery by studying the mind, body, and spirit as a complete system, all three branches working together. We look to bring connection, health, and healing to everybody! We strive to keep our class sizes smaller than you will typically find at other studios to provide optimal health and healing through every class offered.

We are not a typical studio. Our purpose is to work with you to meet your health and healing goals. Everybody is different. AND we are a one room schoolhouse so every class is filled with beginners to advanced yogis. While some may bend one way, others bend the other way. We celebrate everyone’s uniqueness and gather together in connection and celebrating each souls own healing journey. We all learn so much about each other in these classes.

We are here to help you broaden your horizons. We lead a 200hr and 300hr yoga teacher training each year. We offer massage, reiki, and other healing modalities in our beautiful healing room. We lead amazing events such as Red Tents, Women’s Circles, Sound Immersions, Glow Flow Yoga, Tarot 101, Kombucha workshops, Mala making, Kid’s Yoga, and so much more. We want to meet our community’s needs with whatever peeks their interest.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is that everyone feels included and everyone feels like they can authentically be true to themSelves (highest Self). I struggled my whole life not fitting into any one group and it was really difficult. I was never true to my own Self. I just kept conforming to be like the people I was with. When my life came crumbling down, I realized I had no true foundation. So I had to build my own. Being able to hold space for people to build that foundation and be true to who they truly are is my mission in this life. When we are able to find our own path, our own way, we truly begin living. Living our life. And it may not look like how you thought it would or how society says you “should” live. To be there to say “hey, it’s ok to take a different path” is empowering. Once I found my own path, my soul sang. To hold space for others souls to sing is an honor.
