Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaihid Rush. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Jaihid Avon Rush, aka King Spydamann, was born in Plainfield, New Jersey and raised in Decatur, Georgia, but he only started pursuing music professionally after living in Clair-mel City, Florida. He and his friends in Decatur where he grew up used to rap and write songs, but it wasn’t until he lived there that he actually took it seriously. He met a group of artists calling themselves CMC Allstars and saw how serious they were and everything they were doing which wasn’t much but it was light years ahead of his views on being a rapper.
When he went back to Decatur, he formed a few groups trying to recapture what was learned in Florida. Dramatized Commission was the first (He, Jabez, Spit Fire, Chris, Jas). It didn’t work out so Spit Fire recruited C.A.L.A.V. (Composer Arranged Logically Around Visions or Dyrti C) and the trio formed Verbal Violence. Eventually, a friend at school introduced him to Classico from Mystyc Family and Verbal Violence joined the Mystyc movement.
Mystyc Family did a few things in the early 2000s. Most notable was the underground release of their first album, Mystyc World. Then Spit Fire, another close friend, J-Threat and King Spydamann were caught by police for carjacking. They served ten years. During that time, Mystyc went on to release Booty Bounce but kept in touch. Upon his release, he vigorously pursued his career releasing several singles a mixtape with Mystyc Family, joined the cast of Atlanta Hit Makers, the web series Atlanta’s Ugly, and published the fictional epic novel series The Red Bricks of Krusck.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My biggest struggle was the combination of prison & post-prison life. Doing ten years is tough on you socially, but the shock of how the world works ten years later was a real challenge. Before there was no social media so social life is vastly different and also the same in many ways.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So, my time in prison allowed me to put to paper a fictional world I had been daydreaming out for years. I created it in elementary school but matured the ideas over time. I wrote out the characters and penned my first story. When I got out, after some obstacles with getting it digital, I published it. Now I’ve partnered with EIM Creative Studios to release a deluxe edition that will include artwork of the characters, commentary, and a glossary among other perks. I’m a rapper that created a fictional universe that could rival the big two and Star Wars.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was mostly quiet until I was disturbed. I read comics but was mostly into superhero cartoons and hip hop. I can also say street life had my attention at one point.
