Check Out Jazmin Freeman’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmin Freeman.

Hi Jazmin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a college student in New York City, I developed a deep appreciation for style and the fashion industry. I knew my journey would eventually lead to creating something of my own but I was never sure about the precise path. While discovering new ways to create income in college, I began customizing clothes for my classmates. Denim and leather jackets, jeans, shoes, anything I could get my hands on. I immediately went for it and started creating costumes for classmates’ short films and dance performances. I enjoyed it so much that I would have done it for free; that is when I knew this was a passion worth exploring.

Naturally, loving dogs and fashion, it made sense to merge the two by designing clothing for dogs and clothing to match their owners. While in the discovery phase of my business, I suffered the loss of my youngest brother. It was completely unexpected and unexplained. This was the hardest time of my life, while also inspirational. As I was grieving, it became harder for me to find a purpose within anything I was doing. I then realized it was important for me to keep pushing and follow my dreams because he didn’t have a chance to. I could have used this as an excuse to not move forward, but instead I chose to be relentless.

The concept was there with the complete foundation, but I could not come up with a name. I prayed on it and just hoped eventually something would come to me. One night, I was completely woken up from my sleep and heard his name. So I wrote it down. The next day I looked at my notes and realized this was exactly what I had been looking for. Therefore, I named the company Jonquise. It’s not only a name but a tribute to my brother. Also, an opportunity to create a legacy in honor of his life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey has not been easy. Though my businesses came about organically, I had a lot of lessons before finally creating products that target specific markets. I realized through this process that it’s important to stay focused and keep going. Although it may not have been your original path, hard work and perseverance will always lead you to the destination. My biggest struggle has been overthinking.

Now, I will test new ideas on a small scale first to see what customers think and let things flow.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
After two years in business, I decided to refocus the brand to a luxury market. With that In mind, I needed to find a creative way to sell through all of the inventory. I opened an Etsy shop for my overstocked items and named it Pawpulence. Shortly after opening the shop, custom dog shirts became my top-selling item. Inspired by Atlanta and its love for dogs, I designed branded items targeting the Atlanta Metro area that will launch Spring ’22.

I have also had a career in aviation for six years and I absolutely love what I do. Traveling the world has opened my eyes creatively and allowed me to experience things I could have never imagined. Recently I have been creating content to share those experiences with the focus on Flight Attendant life, travel and my love for fashion.
