Meet Peter Ranney of Sunshine on a Ranney Day / Ranney Blair

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Ranney.

Hi Peter, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story starts as boy working with my Dad on construction sites. Through my teenage and high school years, I worked with him doing general remodels and specialty projects, but decided I wanted a “real job” and went to Clemson University to study accounting.

Moved to Atlanta for my first job and about a year later met Holly, my future wife, playing coed softball in Brookhaven. I was still in accounting and she was a kid’s buyer for a large furniture retailer.

Two years into our marriage, we were going to a church in Roswell and the pastor gave a sermon on using your networks and resources for the benefit of other people. From that sermon Sunshine on a Ranney Day was born. We decided to use our backgrounds, furniture and construction to help children with special needs with room makeovers. Our first project was for a child named Mathew. He was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor and wanted a military bunker room because he always wanted to be in the military. Gathering our friends, family and few generous businesses, we created his military bunker in 1 day and set the path for what is now Sunshine on a Ranney Day. To date, we have completed over 140 makeovers with our most requested room being a wheelchair accessible bathroom. We also recently opened a home furnishings and decor store to raise money for the mission. The store just celebrated its one year anniversary and has been a huge fundraising success for both furniture sales and events at the store.

During the rise of Sunshine, I was contacted a lot about doing remodels for profit. I wasn’t quite ready to take on a 3rd job as Holly and I were both still working corporate jobs and running the charity. In 2014 I started Ranney Blair Home Renovations with my business partner Scott Blair, who I also met playing softball. Ranney Blair does custom remodels in the Roswell area.

On a personal note we have a five years old son, Tucker and live on 5 acres in Woodstock. We love to go RVing and using have a tripped planned each month even if it’s just for a weekend. We also have a lot of animals. Greg the dog, three pigs, two donkeys and about nine chickens.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Like most good things, it comes with some pain. When you are doing your calling, the bumps feel much less.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
A huge part of my life and Holly’s is faith over fear. Sunshine on a Ranney Day was inspired by a church sermon to use your networks and resources. We all have skills and abilities that can and should be used to help others. Use those because they were given to you for a reason.
