Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert and Kimberlee Lucas.
They have worked in the motion picture industry for over thirty years. Robert as a Set Decoration lead person, Kimberlee as a production accountant.
The opportunity came to them a little over three years ago to purchase one of the pioneering props and set dressing rental shops in the Atlanta area. With their collective “know how”, they have built the business into the largest shops in the southeast region. They provide props and set dressing to almost every media production filmed in Atlanta, including music videos, commercial and live theater.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our first few months in late 2013 were very slow starting. Beginning spring of 2014 the volume picked up and increased to the point that we doubled our warehouse space, filling it with a wide variety of goods. We have seen exponential growth in our first three years, doubling our staff, hiring additional full time employees.
Our main, struggle has been keeping up with the volume of work. Every day is completely full with servicing our ever growing customer base.
In January of 2018, we will begin our move to a new facility in East Point, GA. A larger and more logistically friendly working environment that will allow us future growth.
Please tell us about Central Atlanta Props and Sets (CAPS).
I believe we are most proud of our customer service. Having extensive knowledge of how productions operate and the sometimes unusual requirements to get the job done quickly and efficiently, has allowed us to develop a loyal client list of repeating customers.
Time is the most valuable commodity to a production. We operate quickly to supply their needs with a minimum of time wasted.
Our pricing is the most competitive in the industry, we can keep our costs low by having the sheer volume of rentals that our clients pull from us. This sets us apart from our competition. Customer service, low prices and understanding of our clients, makes us the go-to shop for media production needs.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Christmas time memories spent with family.
