Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica McCoy.
In early 2017, after 15 years of achieving fast-track success as a rising star with one of the world’s top companies, Monica began her journey into the world of entrepreneurship at the age of 35. In doing so, she serves as an example for women around the globe on how to effectively ignite their own dreams and realize their own successes.
Monica, the owner of Monica Motivates, LLC, is a global speaker, executive coach, and business strategist for professionals and business owners. McCoy is helping women embrace their desire to follow their north star and become active participants in their personal and professional success rather than being spectators. “My passion is helping women find their voice and their value and helping them put a strategy together for success so that they can live the life they were intended to live,” says McCoy. “You can achieve whatever you put your mind to, and I’m a real-life testimony of what can happen when someone has a plan, executes the plan, and doesn’t settle for less.”
She is a staunch believer in planning your work and working your plan and has been ever since she was a child, well before she understood how important planning and taking action was. In fact, she says the circumstances in which she grew up could have limited her options if she had allowed it, but even as a child, she knew exactly what she wanted…and she wasn’t going to let negative circumstances stop her.
“I was raised in a single parent household,” shared McCoy. “We didn’t have much, and I had every reason to think I couldn’t be where I am today. But I had big dreams and never defined myself by my circumstances. At a young age, I made the decision to save lives. I remember coming home and announcing to my family in the third grade that I was going to be a cardiologist as I had always been fascinated by the heart and wanted to repair lives. Seeing the pain of my family being broken apart made me want to help people be whole again.”
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Challenges and obstacles will always come. It’s all about how you react to them.

Seeing the pain of my family being broken apart made me want to help people be whole again.”
McCoy began pursuing her dream of becoming a cardiologist by majoring in chemistry at Emory University in Atlanta. However, in her sophomore year, she realized she had a fear of blood. “One of the important lessons I learned early on is that your plans for yourself may not always be God’s plan,” says McCoy. “When I realized I had a
fear of blood, I had to pivot. I became a psychology major to study people’s behavior and understand how the mind operates. I wanted to know why people do what they do. I attribute my education to the success I experienced in my corporate career at Coca- Cola and currently as a business owner.”

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory was dreaming of all of the possibilities. I had dreams of changing and saving lives during my childhood. I started writing goals at the age of eight and this practice has been one that has continued to prove very beneficial. Writing my goals has given me the courage to pursue my highest dreams and to not let life pass me by without following my dream. I encourage everyone to think back their childhood and remember their original childhood dream. Your true vision for your life is tied to your childhood dream.
Assisting her in her successful personal and professional journey is Monica’s husband of 13 years, Stanley McCoy, whom she met in college. Together, they are raising their 11-year-old son, Matthew, and 8-year-old daughter, Morgan, to succeed in life. “I strongly believe that when you have a vision for your life, the universe conspires to make it happen. You have to have faith, believe in yourself, be strategic, and put in the work!” says McCoy. “There are five pillars that I stand on, and those are Faith, Fitness, Family, Fortune, and Fun. Trust the voice inside, choose your inner circle carefully, step into the arena, follow your dreams, and have the life you want and deserve.”
