Today we’d like to introduce you to Shellton Tremble.
Hi Shellton, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in Statesboro, GA. I am a visual artist, artisan, inventor and poet. I would consider my art to be mostly surrealism / conceptual and innovative with bold colors and stylized renderings. I’ve lived mostly in the Southeast, including Florida and South Carolina. I matriculated in the early years in Georgia and completed my Bachelor of Science degrees at SC State University. While attending college, I earned two diplomas, one concentrating in Marketing and the other concentrating in Fashion Merchandising. Later when I moved to Atlanta, GA, I completed my Associate of Arts Degree in Fashion Design at Bauder College. There I read, researched and proposed doing more in the field of Fine Art. As a small child, I remember questioning my mother on why I could not draw like my brother (or paint as she did), so she said to me, “You won’t know until you try.” From there, my interest sparked, my skills blossomed, and exploration began.
Secondly, though I have taken some art classes, I would consider myself self-taught. The surreal imagery, sci-fi, fantasy, colors, forms and beauty captivate me. I believe that any object or subject can be applied to a surface and used to convey thoughts and imagination. I strongly believe in all types of mediums and experimentation is one of my key strengths. I love to add texture and depth in my paintings. I try to provoke deep emotions and layers in my work. I cater more to abstractions, surreal and conceptual creativity, but not exclusively. I consider art as universal, so I create with the cosmos in mind. I am very keen when it comes to tantalizing and innovative concepts. I want the world and my touch of human ingenuity to portray an unbound and flowing energy in all of us.
I have belonged to several art associations and communities, such as South Cobb Arts Alliance, RawArtists.org, Chocolate & Art – Atlanta, Atlanta Artists Center – Atlanta, GA, Mano A Mano Art Shows, FineArtAmerica.com, Artwanted.com, and RedBubble.com. I am also Vice President of AAFTA for 2017-2021. I have exhibited my work in different venues and an assortment of emerging artist gatherings. I have instructed Art and Design at Bauder College, Atlanta, GA. I desire to eventually get my work published and into high-end galleries. I am definitely looking to expose my work to New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago and Miami.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road…it has been all surface highway. The art and creative world is a roller coaster of finding your style, your market and building the right relationships to make your art career successful. Yet, there is beauty, excitement and adventure in the journey! Some of the main struggles was finding the venues, galleries or events to exhibit, showcase or sell my work. Ironically, the art world can be very political when it comes to established galleries. It is always a balance between purchasing art supplies, taking time to create works of art, making new contacts and marketing / advertising your brand. Time is a major fact as it takes lots of factors to create. And lastly, finding the clients to repeatedly collect your creations.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What is ART to Shellton LaBron Tremble? It’s POWER. It’s PASSION. It’s PERPETUITY. I try to merge spiritual thoughts with tangible mediums. ART to me is as infinite as the mind of a youthful toddler. It can be everyday objects or impossible realities. Initially and on the north side of the metro Atlanta area, I am known as the ‘butterfly guy”. I create large and colorful motifs of butterflies with lots of texture, but not entirely. I juxtapose half-face models with the butterflies. i also have completed works of dragonflies and hummingbirds. I moved to different items including exotic animal eyes. But, I am mostly known for my techno Egyptian Fantasy pieces. I call them “Kemetic Constructs”. These works represent “the blending of the knowledge of the ancient past with the incredible technology of the future”. I began these items to bring more awareness to the power of the ancient civilization and my love for sci-fi.
I am mostly proud of my abilities to create works of art the appeal to a large diverse crowd. I have sold art to all types of collectors, art lovers and interior designers.
I truly believe that what sets me apart is my pure creative imagination! I have the ability to create with all forms of mediums (including oils, acrylics, graphite, pastels, mixed media, etc.). Concepts and imagines constantly develop in my mind. My works of art are bold, intuitive, imaginary, and express the inner universe of the mind.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is LOVE. God is love. It is the embodiment of all creation. It is the ‘force’ of attraction and purpose wrapped in the power of infinity! We all start off liking something, but when we love something, mere words can not convey. I think it maybe the only word for the universal flow.
Love dictates what is most important to our hearts, mind and existence. It is purpose, passion and eternal. It is the force behind why I create works of ART. I believe I was born of the Creator, therefore I create.
