Today we’d like to introduce you to Brejia Blocker.
Brejia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was 12, I started braiding gaining interest from watching others braid. I volunteered to practice on neighborhood kids and made it a hustle in middle school/ high school.
In High school, I was in an entrepreneurship class and the class was visited by a couple of students from Empire Beauty school. They told us about having a business and being entrepreneurs in that field. This is when I knew that I wanted to be my own boss at 17. For a project, we had to come up with a brand and a business plan. So I had the idea to have a spa salon collaborating hair/beauty services and massage therapy. This is when I came up with the name EzImprovedBeauty. I later simplified it to EZBeautified to give it more spice and for it be easier to remember.
Then 2014 after college I continued with the same brand name as I grew my clientele more and more And expanded my business more, working with public relation specialists, socialites, Celebs and other well-known people. I have set trends within the braiding industry and have influenced many. I now share my braiding techniques as I host hands-on braid class workshops in order to help others become more independent and become their own boss through braid mastery.
Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part, it has been a smooth road for my business. I believe what you put out is what you give within any avenue.
Every business has is highs and lows but I have managed to be steady throughout the years and at the worst dealing with financial slow times of the year.
How would you describe the type of kid you were growing up?
I was a pretty happy child. I was energic and a Tom boy. I grew up with 3 sisters. I was always the good child lol. My interests were dancing, cheerleading, and being social. I also use to help my dad with his job doing construction until I gained the interest of making money doing hair.
What is your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite memories we’re being outside with friends, playing sports with family and going on adventures with friends and family.
My sisters and friends use to make up dance routines and show them to my parents and also perform them at my friend’s dad job (wrestler).
I use to play basketball, football, baseball, wrestling/ boxing with my friends and family for fun.
The adventures I use to go on were mainly with my dad and my sisters and we use to walk through creeks and ponds and walk up the Stone Mountain in Atlanta.
What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to continue to develop my businesses, expand them through traveling, expand my network, build my empire, open my salon and ultimately be the best version of myself while helping other people.
