Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Kayea.
Hi Nick, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For me, it all started with a guitar. At the age of six, I fell in love with not just the instrument but the whole world of music. I was blessed to be able to learn from an amazing instructor Mitch Parsons. He did an excellent job in depositing his knowledge, skill, and perspective of music to me. At the age of 11, I started to write original music. Songwriting began to be the avenue in which I would be able to express myself, my feelings, and my understanding of the world, my life.
In Middle School, I acted in our school musical High School Musical. This is where I received my introduction to the world of acting and theater. Looking back at it, I feel the most alive, when I’m acting, whether it is on stage or set, there is truly nothing like it. I also picked up the trumpet in our school band. There I played in our school pep band during our basketball games, and I also played guitar in the school jazz band.
Shiloh High School is where everything changed. My chorus teacher and mentor Craig Johnson changed the way I understood and perceived music forever. He put us in a thriving, competitive, and creative environment where we learned complex arrangements to covers of popular songs and very detailed harmonies. There we formed a four guy boy band called 4th degree. Working with this group did wonders for me. It gave me the opportunity to test out my ear and experiment with different harmonies. This also helped me with creating backgrounds for my original material. One thing that people notice about my music is my harmonies. In high school, I spent a lot of time around music. I’m very grateful that I was placed in such a rich environment.
I attended the University of West Georgia not knowing what I was going to do but had faith that I would find my way and that I was destined to do something big.
The summer of 2014 was eye-opening for me. My buddy Baroque got me into extra work. That summer I appeared in three films; Goosebumps, The DUFF, and BESSIE. Ugghhhh it was so exciting, the energy that I feel on set is unmatched. After that experience, a new fire was lit under me. I began to feel as if I had a clear purpose again. The Lord led me to change my major to Mass Communications, which led me to major in Film & Video Production. Man oh man class became fun again. This is where I began starting writing scripts. My screenwriting professors Chris Renaud and Amy Cuomo deposited so much faith and inspiration into me. If it wasn’t for them, I don’t think that I would be able to write and understand storytelling the way that I do. While in college and taking on a full load of classes, I began to exercise my craft and passion. There I wrote and produced two musicals. My Testimony, performed on campus, and Family Matters which had a two-night premiere at the local church. I also created the pilot episode for a series called Great Day To Be Saved. A show about young adults believers and their navigation of life and their beliefs. During my college career, I got the opportunity to direct two gospel choirs as well.
Since college, I have gotten married to my amazing wife Jordan Alexa who has been a stable and consistent part of my artistry and life. She has helped me every step of the way (since we were like 16). If for any strange reason anyone thinks I’m “cool” it may be because of her. Just maybe. Also, keep an eye out for that name. Jordan Alexa, she’s a game-changer.
Currently, I am running my creative production company Kayea Kreative LLC while also building my career as an artist and actor. I am excited for the future and the wonders that it holds.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth? No, I would definitely not call my walk smooth. It’s been an interesting one, to say the least. I can say that God’s timing is crucial and he’s been preparing me for the future ahead. I’ve had to sacrifice a lot for my dreams. I’ve invested a lot of time and money into my craft. At times it can get overwhelming and frustrating because things don’t always go the way I would like them too. But I trust that God has a better plan for me. A plan to prosper me and not to harm me. A better hope and a better future.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Creating is what I love to do. I enjoy working on projects and helping people’s creative dreams come to life. Right now, Kayea Kreative is in a special place. I firmly believe that the content that will be produced from here on out will be content that will help impact lives and challenge the way that we think. I put my heart and soul into the projects that I work on, both for me and my clients.
As stated before, we provide several services. For film/video, we do business promos, weddings, music videos, short films, behind the scenes content, live events, etc. We also provide creative direction for music videos, promos, etc.
Kayea Kreative provides musical services as well. Piano & Guitar Lessons, assistance with songwriting, instrumentals & beats, film scores, guitar loops, riffs, etc.
Outside of the services I provide, my heart really lies with the personal content that I have been working on and perfecting for years. I am an artist and storyteller. I strive to paint a picture with every record I record, script that I write, and character I portray.
I think what makes me different from others is my authenticity. I know that we probably hear that response a lot but I know that when I leave this earth, there will never be anyone like me. My goal is to help people, spread the word of God in a tangible effective way, and ultimately help mankind win. We need to do better as a people. Love more. Hate less. And I desire to be an example of that.
Some Kayea Kreative content to be on the lookout for is “This Is The Land” ft. Kevin Cooks music video, “Untitled (We All Know)” ft. Sarah Danielle & I will finally be releasing a body of work for the world to listen to. This album will be filled with records that I have stored in the vault. I have some weight coming behind this one.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I will be known as the best musical writer of all time! 😁
